Just before half term 27 schools joined Dean Close Prepfor an afternoon of Maths! 112 young mathematicians gathered in the Centenary Hall to take part in the ‘Schools’ Maths Challenge’. Pupils age 9 to 11 spent the afternoon solving puzzles and maths problems, such as, deciphering values for algebraic expressions and working through a list of countdown examples.
The afternoon was run by DCBEAGLE Challenges, who host up to 60 challenges a year with an average of 30 schools at each event, represented by4 pupils from each school.
Douglas Buchanan from DCBEAGLE Challenges, explained, “The aim is for talented mathematicians from each school to be given tasks to stretch their skills in a competitive environment. Not onlydo the childrenfocus on theproblems, they also get to know others who have a common interest in puzzles and maths.”
Congratulations goes to Gastrells Community Primary School, who won the competition. Well done, to each and every pupil that entered.
