All parents and guardians are warmly invited to our annual Remembrance Service on Friday 9th November, at which The Warden Mrs Emma Taylor, will be speaking. (Of course it is often of particular poignancy to the children who come from families who are in active service, but often sticks with all the children for a while.) Please do note the earlier start time of 10.50am. We would ask that all guests are seated by 10.40am so that the service can start on time.

Charity Fair, Friday 23rd November

All parents, family and friends are invited to the Dean Close Preparatory School Charity Fair, starting at 2.30pm on Friday 24th November. Our nominated charity for this academic year is ‘Family Space’ – a local charity which supports families manage the ups and downs of family life.

Children may come to School in home clothes on the day, but we would be grateful for a £1.00 donation for the privilege. Children may bring up to £5.00 in small change (in a purse or wallet) to the Fair. For parents there is no limit! As usual, there will be lots of stalls devised and set up by the children themselves.

If you have anything that we could auction, please contact Mrs Hunt, Head of Pastoral: alhunt@deanclose.org.uk

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th November

The Dean Close Preparatory School Senior Production will be performed in the Centenary Hall on Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th November at 7.00pm.

This is a ticketed event and tickets (no charge) should be ordered via the Bacon Theatre Box Office: www.bacontheatre.co.uk

It would be very helpful if you order only the number of tickets you definitely require. This is to avoid seats being booked which are then not filled on the performance evenings, creating a waiting list of those who would like to attend but cannot get a ticket.

Mobile Phone Policy

As you are aware, the Parents’ Handbook highlights the aim to make DCPS a mobile ‘phone free zone for day pupils (Boarders have their own guidelines).

However, there are some exceptional circumstances when it is necessary for a child to bring a mobile into school. On these occasions the mobile ‘phone must be handed in immediately the child arrives in school to the Housemaster/mistress for safe keeping during normal school hours, the phone must never be taken into the changing rooms and should only be used once the child has left the school grounds.

Recently, it has been noted that several children are bringing mobile phones into school and we therefore feel it necessary to remind you of the procedure regarding the granting of this special permission.

Pupils are only allowed mobile ‘phones in school if they have had permission from the Deputy Head (Pastoral), Mr Jonathan Harris. If you have not done so already, then please contact me in writing requesting consent, if you consider it imperative that your son or daughter has a mobile ‘phone in school. Permission is required for any time children want to bring their phones into school e.g. an occasional use or a one off occasion.

It should be noted that children can, with permission, use a House landline during the School day. In accordance with our School Policy there will be periodic checks to make sure that mobiles are not being kept in School bags or pockets.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this matter.

Swimming notice regarding pupils’ equipment

Please could all swimmers have the correct swimming kit for their swimming lessons: black swimming costume/shorts, goggles and a swim hat. The school shop now has a stock of Dean Close swim hats.  Pupils will be expected to have them by end of half term.

Speech and Drama Examinations

All pupils should be well into their preparation for the LAMDA examinations which will take place early in the Lent Term. It is expected that everyone has memorised their lines and that pieces will have been typed up and printed by the time we return after the half term holiday.
