IMPORTANT INFORMATION

PUPILS JOINING ONLINE LESSONS

Please note that our absolute preference and the best thing for the education of our pupils is for them to be in lessons. It is important therefore to note:

Online lessons are for pupils who have not been able to return to this country, and for those pupils who are self-isolating and / or waiting for test results as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic. These pupils are expected to attend live lessons remotelyor view the recording of the lesson, and complete the set work as prescribed by their teachers.

This is different from those that are off school because they are ‘ill’ due to non-Covid related illness. These pupils are not expected to attend online lessons and should catch up with the work they have missed, when they are able to, in the usual way by contacting their teacher directly by email.

We have different absence codes to cover these two very different needs.

DROP OFF

Below are a few reminders about Drop Off in the morning and for collection. Please can parents use the Drop Off point outside the Music School. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils. The only cars that should be proceeding up towards the Day Village are staff and pupils who are using the Railway Courts Car Park for the remainder of the day.

  • As many pupils as possible are urged to walk or cycle to school
  • Drop off is via Estates Drive (POST CODE: GL51 6EP), no drop off on Shelburne Road please
  • There is a turning circle in Front of the Music School (see below) and we urge pupils to exit vehicles as quickly as they can please.
  • Sports Hall Drive is NOT a drop off option for Senior pupils.

Many thanks for your co-operation.

We are delighted to be able to offer expedition training days for the Remove Bronze candidates. The first of these takes place this Sunday the 4th of October. Any pupils who have not yet signed up to complete their training expedition can sign up using the link in the attached letter.

The 4th Form Duke of Edinburgh Launch Information can be found in this attached letter.

Cheltenham Literature Festival

2 to 11 October

We are very happy to be supporting the literature festival again this year, albeit slightly differently! This year all of the festival events will be virtual and livestreamed free via the Cheltenham Festivals website.

Please do have a look at the What’s on Grid to find events that might interest you and your sons and daughters.

https://www.cheltenhamfestivals.com/literature/whats-on/grid

If you would like to set up bookmarks for a number of events, you are very welcome to sign up for your own FREE account to watch the livestreams here: https://cheltenhamliteraturefestival.com/box-office/

The events are streamed via the Screen on the Green on the festival map:  https://cheltenhamliteraturefestival.com/screen-on-the-green/

School Shop

Please note that the School Shop will be temporarily be closed on a Saturday from 3 October onwards. Further notification will go out once Saturday Opening resumes.

Allergies

It is very important to note that Dean Close School is a NUT and Sesame Free School. Our catering staff stick fastidiously to very strict guidelines, which can be compromised when pupils bring nut products onto the school site. If you have any queries in this regard please do not hesitate to contact the Health Centre on health@deanclose.org.uk.

Leave of Absence Requests

Any request for Leave of Absence during term time needs to be submitted to the Deputy Headmaster (ashall@deanclose.org.uk) via the Housemaster, well in advance. Leave is only granted in exceptional circumstances as any absence from lessons, places additional pressure on the pupils to catch up on work that they have missed.

Dean Close Prayer Fellowship

All parents are warmly invited to join the Dean Close prayer fellowship, which acts as a social hub and prayer support network. In normal running we meet fortnightly on the school site straight after morning drop off, for a cup of tea, a chance to meet other like-minded Dean Close parents, and also a chance to pray for all aspects of school life together as informed by the Chaplain. At the moment our meetings are online.

If you are interested in finding out more about this, or would like to be added to the email distribution list please do get in touch with the Chaplain, John Ash on jcash@deanclose.org.uk. Even if you live abroad and wouldn’t normally be able to join us in person, summaries of prayer news are sent out regularly. We would love you to join us!

Parents’ Tennis

It is with great pleasure that on behalf of Dean Close Services Ltd, we can announce the return to our Parents’ Tennis programme. We would like to thank you all for your patience during these unprecedented times and also for your enthusiasm to get back on court with each other! We would like to initially advertise our Cardio Tennis Sessions which will restart on Wednesday 30th September at a new time of 8.30am-9.15am. Sessions are £6 each week. Sessions are capped on a maximum of 12 players and need to run on a minimum of 4.

So that we can control numbers and if you are interested in attending, please email Lydia Day on: lday@deanclose.org.uk

We also have lots of information on the return to our tennis programme, including all Covid secure measures, so please ask us about these if you are feeling apprehensive about playing.

Dust off those rackets and we look forward to hopefully seeing you on court very soon!
