@Cheltenham Literature Festival
On Sunday 11 October 6th and 5th form Latinists (safely socially-distanced) greatly enjoyed the company of Professors Mary Beard (Cambridge) and Llewelyn Morgan (Oxford) who were live-streamed into the Classics department to discuss the treatment of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth by the Roman poets Ovid and Virgil. This provided a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to explore the subject beyond the normal curriculum.
PUPILS JOINING ONLINE LESSONS
Please note that our absolute preference and the best thing for the education of our pupils is for them to be in lessons. It is important therefore to note:
Online lessons are for pupils who have not been able to return to this country, and for those pupils who are self-isolating and / or waiting for test results as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic. These pupils are expected to attend live lessons remotely, or view the recording of the lesson, and complete the set work as prescribed by their teachers.
This is different from those that are off school because they are ‘ill’ due to non-Covid related illness. These pupils are not expected to attend lessons and should catch up with the work they have missed in the usual way by contacting their teacher directly by email.
We have different absence codes to cover these two very different needs.
Sports Hall Drive
With the weather becoming more autumnal we have had to close big field gates for the Pre-Prep Drop Off.
As a consequence, the Sports Hall drive gates will be set to open from 0800-0900 and 1515-1700 Monday – Friday to provide some parking spaces for Pre-Prep Drop Off ONLY.
Please do not use the drive for any other purposes. Your co-operation is much appreciated in order to facilitate a safer environment for parents and their young children.
Please note that the School Shop will be temporarily be closed on a Saturday from 3 October onwards. Further notification will go out once Saturday Opening resumes.
Leave of Absence Requests
Any request for Leave of Absence during term time needs to be submitted to the Deputy Headmaster (firstname.lastname@example.org) via the Housemaster, well in advance. Leave is only granted in exceptional circumstances as any absence from lessons, places additional pressure on the pupils to catch up on work that they have missed.
We were very excited to see the return of our Parent’s Tennis programme last week, and although ‘rain stopped play’ on Friday, our Thursday group will still able to get on court for the first time in a long time!
We would like to continue advertising our Cardio Tennis Sessions which take place each Wednesday at a new time of 8.30am-9.15am. Sessions are £6 each week and are capped on a maximum of 12 players and need to run on a minimum of 4.
So that we can control numbers and if you are interested in attending, please email Lydia Day on: email@example.com
We also have lots of information on the return to our tennis programme, including all Covid secure measures, so please ask us about these if you are feeling apprehensive about playing.
Dust off those rackets and we look forward to hopefully seeing you on court very soon!
