We are delighted to have had a full set of negative results this week and we do hope that this continues. We are fully expecting all pupils to continue testing twice weekly until the end of September as per Government guidance. Day pupils will be issued with testing kits to take home, whilst testing for Boarders will take place centrally in house twice a week.
Please watch this instructional video for details on how to test effectively:
Please note that different brands of tests have slightly different instructions.
We are reviewing our procedures over the weekend but until we notify pupils and parents otherwise, we will continue with the guidelines laid out in last week’s mailing.
“The government has removed the requirement to wear face coverings in law but expects and recommends that they are worn in enclosed and crowded spaces where you may come into contact with people you don’t normally meet. This includes public transport and dedicated transport to school or college.”
Following the heatwave we are, as of Monday 13 September, reverting back to full school uniform.
This means that pupils are required to wear their jackets when moving around the school, but may remove them when seated, and with the permission of their teachers.
For further guidance, please refer to the Parents’ Handbook from page 16 to 18.
Monday 13 September
Each year we take individual portraits of our new pupils and the Lower 6th for our database, which are then made available to parents, if they wish to purchase them.
These will take place on Monday 13 September as detailed in the online Calendar. The timings of these photographs can be seen in the attached document. We urge all pupils to take a few extra moments to ensure they are dressed correctly on Monday.
University Visits Request Form
Upper 6th pupils wanting to attend University Open Days need to complete the request from that is available in the Library or online on our Futures Page.

Fourth Form (Year 9) and New Joiners’ Parents’ Meetings with Tutors
Thursday 23 September 5-7 pm (BST)
Friday 24 September 1.15-2.15 pm (BST)
The Parents’ Meetings for parents and guardians of pupils who are new to the School (i.e. all Fourth Form and pupils who started in the Senior School this term) are on Thursday 23 September from 5-7 pm, and Friday 24 September from 1.15-2.15 pm. The Thursday meeting is the main meeting, while the Friday meeting is reserved for overseas parents/guardians. Both meetings will be conducted via video calls using Parents Evening System https://deanclose.schoolcloud.co.uk. The instructions for booking and making video appointments are attached here.
Each parent/guardian can book up to one 10-minute appointment with the child’s tutor and can then invite one more person (parent, guardian or pupil) to join the appointments, so a meeting can be conducted from two separate devices (smartphone or laptop). The booking for appointments opens at 8 am on Wednesday 15 September, and closes at 8 am on Wednesday 22 September.
If you have any problems logging in or making appointments, please contact Mr Mbore Adichareh at firstname.lastname@example.org .
GCSE Art Exhibition
Starting the year on a high, the Art Department are delighted to present an exhibition of previously unseen coursework by last year’s 5th Form, GCSE Art & Design cohort. Despite the restrictions of Covid 19, and the significant loss of studio time throughout the academic year 2020/21, this talented group of pupils produced some stunning artwork which is both varied and personal. The exhibition is testimony to the value and importance of creativity and arts-based learning in the face of adversity.
Parents can view the artwork by making an appointment through Mrs Evans, the Head of Art by emailing email@example.com.

Michaelmas Term Calendar
The Calendar is available online via our website, and this is where we will publish any updates and amendments throughout the course of the year.
For those parents who are wanting to upload the School Calendar to smart phones, google calendar or similar, you are able to use the following URL:
Term dates for rest of the academic year can be found by following this LINK!
Parent Portal & iSAMS Parents App
Please see attached, the detailed instructions for logging into the Parent Portal and subsequent use of the iSAMS Parent App. This gives instant access from your mobile device to a great deal of information about your child’s daily activities at school, including their timetable, reports and sanctions, if they have any.
If you are a new parent to Dean Close and have not received an email detailing your Registration details to the Parent Portal, then do please contact our Database Manager on email@example.com.
For existing parents, please use your normal login details associated with your Parent Portal Account.
Sport & Co-Curricular Portal
We have recently added a separate login for Parents onto the SOCS Portal which we use for all our sport and co-curricular activities. Using the email address, which is registered with Dean Close, you will be able to activate your account.
Click the “Parent” tab and click “Activate Account” link to access the account activation page. Click here for more help.
It is very important to note that Dean Close School is a NUT and Sesame Free School. Our catering staff stick fastidiously to very strict guidelines, which can be compromised when pupils bring nut products onto the school site. If you have any queries in this regard please do not hesitate to contact the Health Centre on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Leave of Absence Requests
Any request for Leave of Absence during term time needs to be submitted to the Deputy Headmaster (email@example.com) via the Housemaster, well in advance. Leave is only granted in exceptional circumstances as any absence from lessons, places additional pressure on the pupils to catch up on work that they have missed.
