COVID Vaccinations: 12-15 year olds
Friday 19 November
We are pleased to report that the 12-15 year old COVID-19 vaccinations went well today for those pupils eligible under the revised guidelines, which only changed on Wednesday 17 November to recommend that children who have had a positive test should wait for 12 weeks before having a vaccination.
For those children who were unable to be vaccinated today, we will keep parents updated with future opportunities as we receive them; alternatively, parents are welcome to pursue vaccines through their GP and/or local drop-in clinics.
For children who have been vaccinated today, the nurses give the following advice: pupils may have mild symptoms tomorrow and may have paracetamol if they need it, ideally with a dose in the morning before they come to school. If they feel unwell, or if they have a high temperature, they may need to stay home and rest. If they have a sore arm they are still permitted to participate in sport.
Fifth Form (Year 11) Parents’ Meetings
Thursday 25 November, 5.00-7.00 pm
The Parents’ Meetings for parents and guardians of Fifth Form pupils will be online on Thursday 25 November from 5-7 pm. Each parent/guardian can book up to ten 5-minute appointments with the child’s subject teachers and tutor and can then invite one more person (another parent, guardian or pupil) to join the appointment, so a meeting can be conducted from two separate devices (smartphone or laptop).
The booking for appointments opened at 8 am on Wednesday 17 November and close at 8 am on Wednesday 24 November. All meetings will be conducted via video calls using Parents Evening System https://deanclose.schoolcloud.co.uk and the instructions for booking and making video appointments are attached.
Overseas parents, who live in a significantly different time zone (GMT + 4), will have a link to book onto the Friday 26 November meeting (1.15-2.15pm, 26 November) instead to allow the videocalls to take place at a reasonable hour. The deadline for booking onto the Friday meeting is the same as above.
If you have any problems logging in or making appointments, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Saturday 4 December, 7pm
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we made the decision to postpone The Disguised Decanian until Saturday the 4th of December at 7pm in the Bacon Theatre. This is Dean Close’s very own version of the popular TV series the ‘Masked Singer’. 16 contestants will battle it out to be crowned the Disguised Decanian Champion. The songs have been chosen and the contestants are rehearsing behind the scenes to hopefully capture the audience vote to put them through to the Finals.
For those not able to join us in person, we will be streaming this event LIVE across the globe. Tickets and further information will be released in due course including tickets and ways to make donations towards this Charity Fundraiser. Please look out for further information in the coming weeks.
Hazlewoods Open Evening
Thursday 2 December, 5.00-6.30pm
Hazlewoods is a top accounting and business services firm headquartered in Cheltenham. They offer a yearly open evening that had proven to be very valuable to pupils interested in a career in Accounting or Finance. Please see the attached flyer and consider registering for the event. Parents are also very welcome to attend.
Black Tie Dinner: 5 February 2022
Dean Close has had strong links with Nyakatakura School since 2005 but the school has never needed our help more than they do in 2021. With a staggeringly low rate of vaccinations and a population that were vulnerable even before the pandemic, we are building again to visit the school and make sure that we can offer the support and help that the community in Uganda needs.
In February, we are hosting a black tie dinner and fundraising evening for Nyakatakura school and we our hoping for items that we could either raffle or auction on the evening itself. The night will be a celebration of the best of both Uganda and Dean Close School but before we start selling tickets, we would love to have raffle items donated to help us to maximise the money that we can raise for our close friends; the pupils of Nyakatakura. See the attached letter for further details.
