We are pleased to launch a brand new Parent Hub

You will also now be able to view the weekly sports fixtures photographs from this platform.

DCPS Values Survey for Parents (all parents)

As you know, Dean Close Preparatory School takes its ethos very seriously and places it at the heart of everything we do. As mentioned to parents at the start of the school year, we are currently reviewing which specific values we should be placing front and centre of the work we do to create citizens for the next century.

As a parent you will have seen the school in action and have valuable perspectives on the life of the school. Therefore, we invite you to take this short, 3 minute survey to share your opinions on the values you think we should be focusing on. Please click here to access the survey.

The school would welcome any other feedback on values, so if you have more to say but cannot easily fit in here, feel free to email Mr Kevin Donnelly, Director of Studies (kdonnelly@deanclose.org.uk) who is overseeing this research.

Schola Cantorum sing Evensong at Dean Close School Chapel, 5.30pm on Thursday 21st November followed at 7.15pm by Music Scholars’ Concert in Prince Michael Hall (all parents)

All our welcome to join us on Thursday 21st November in Dean Close School Chapel for Evensong which is followed at 7.15pm by the annual Music Scholars’ and Award Holders’ Concert, held in the Prince Michael Hall at Dean Close School.  Music Scholars should stay in school for tea and rehearsals until the concert.

Ticket Information for DCPS Senior Production: ‘Annie’ (all parents)

Tickets (free of charge) for our production are now open to the general public via the Bacon Theatre website www.baconthearte.co.uk

There is availability for each of the 3 performances on Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th and Friday 29th November at 7pm in the Centenary Hall. The performance running time is approximately 2 hours and the production is suitable for all ages.

Exeat (all parents)

As you are aware Friday 22nd November is an Exeat for the whole community.

Exeat will begin after our Charity Fair, which is from 2.30-3.45pm. All parents, relatives and guardians are warmly invited to attend.

Pupils can be signed out from houses from 4.00pm, apart from pupils in ‘Annie’ who have already had details circulated to them. On Exeat weekends we ask that all pupils be picked up by 5.00pm.

To help with parking we would also like to suggest the following options:

  1. There is parking available at the Senior School tennis courts. Please click here to access a map.
  2. Sports Hall
  3. Shelburne Road and Hatherley Court Road (please be considerate to residents by not blocking driveways).

Road Safety Week (all parents)

During Road Safety Week, the police often do roadside checks of vehicles for safety, highlighting the dangers of poorly maintained vehicles and offering advice to drivers, or running speed checks and reminding the general public of how speeding is a major cause of accidents and contributor to deaths through road accidents.

Although we are not running any events within school, we would like to remind parents of the importance of preparing their children for dark evenings.  Fluorescent material does not work in the dark! We need to wear something reflective so we can be seen when car headlights are shining towards us. Even a small patch of reflective material can help drivers to see us from very far away. The following websites have more advice on what to do and wear, and also some highway code reminders. https://www.roadsafetyheroes.co.uk/be-safe-be-seen and https://www.think.gov.uk/education-resources

Christmas Appeal for ‘Family Space’ (all parents)

All pupils will be given a full tube of Smarties after House Cross Country, kindly donated by Family Space.  Our Christmas charity appeal this year starts with eating the Smarties and then filling the tube with coins, preferably 20ps.  Please return the full tubes after half term to Houses.  It would be wonderful to have a really positive response to this appeal and half term may provide good opportunities for pupils to do some useful jobs to earn the money to fill the tube.

Charity Fair (all parents)

All parents, family and friends are invited to the Dean Close Preparatory School Charity Fair, starting at 2.30pm on Friday 22nd November.  Our nominated charity for the second year is ‘Family Space’ – a local charity supporting families as they manage the ups and downs of family life.

Children may come to School in home clothes on the day, but we would be grateful for a £1.00 donation for the privilege.  Children may bring up to £5.00 in small change (in a purse or wallet) to the Fair. For parents there is no limit!  As usual, there will be lots of stalls devised and set up by the children themselves.

Charity Fair Auction (all parents)

Auction Items Needed!

The annual auction at the Charity Fair has become a special attraction of the afternoon. Donations of extra special items or pledges will help boost the final sum we are able to raise – everyone loves to watch and be tempted by an auction! In the past, there have been crates of wine, super-sized boxes of chocolates, tickets to sporting events and perfect gifts for Christmas up for grabs. Please bring any donations to Mrs Hunt’s office next week.

Christmas Jumper Day (all parents)

On Friday 6th December everyone in the Prep School is invited to wear a Christmas jumper in support of our nominated charity ‘Family Space’. Pupils will be asked to bring in a donation of £1.00 for this event.

Private View of GCSE Art and Design Work at Dean Close School, Monday 25th November (all parents)

You are warmly invited to a Private View of GCSE Art & Design Work on Monday 25th November from 4.15pm until 6.30pm in the Art School.  Visitors will see a large range of Year 10 GCSE artwork which will include examples of drawing, painting, ceramic sculpture, digital photography and print-making.  In addition, the Sixth Form will be working in their studios and will be happy to show you their A level work and discuss their experiences of Art at this level.  Refreshments will be served throughout the evening. We very much hope that you will be able to join us and would welcome any other friends or family you would like to bring along.

Please click here to access further information on this event.

Sip and Shop, 6.30-8.30pm Wednesday 4th December (all parents)

All members of the Dean Close Community and their friends and family (adults only preferred please) are welcome to gather at Centenary Hall at DCPS for a pre-holiday shopping event!

On sale will be items made and sold by members of the Dean Close community, parents and relatives.  This is a great way to support small businesses and get stocking stuffers, staff and teacher gifts, have a glass of wine and socialise before the Christmas break is upon us.

Jewellery, accessories, clothing, gift baskets, personalised items, essential oils, packaged food gifts, toys, and many more offerings will be available for purchase.

For booth enquiry please contact Mrs Victoria Robb at 077412022662 or email vrobbdesigns@gmail.com

Dean Close Choral Society (all parents)

Parents, Staff, ODs, Friends, and Neighbours – all are welcome to join the Dean Close Choral Society; an ability to read music at some level is helpful.  Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 7.00pm for an hour in the music department at the Senior School.  The rehearsal dates for our next concert are:  5th, 12th, 19th and 26th November, 14th, 21st, 28th January, 4th February and an afternoon rehearsal on 9th February.
