Academy Portraits Individual, Class and Sibling Photographs (all parents)

Academy Portraits visited school and took photographs of the pupils, class groupings and sibling shots on Tuesday 17th September

    • Pupils were given an online access codes to view the photographs which should be online by Friday 27th September.
    • The paper preview copies have now been returned to school and will be given to the children on Friday 27th September.
    • If you are interested in purchasing any of them please ask your children who should have the preview copies in their bags. If the preview copies are  not in their bags please let the Front Office know.
    • Photographs of boarding pupils will be looked after by house parents.
    • The easiest way to view the photographs and order them is online and to be delivered to your home address.
    • If you are ordering using the paper order forms, these should be handed into the school office by Friday 11th October.

Boarding parents have an extended deadline of Monday 4th November

Music Notices (all parents)

Strings Day: Tuesday 2nd October:

Many of our string players from years 4-8 have been invited to DCS strings day. You will have received a separate email regarding the event. Attendance at strings day is for those who regularly attend, junior and senior orchestra/strings from those year groups.  There will be a concert for parents to attend in the Bacon Theatre at 3.30pm, with refreshments served beforehand in the Prince Michael Hall at 3.00pm

Performance Platform

All are warmly invited to join us for the first Performance Platform of term, a lovely concert of solos, on Thursday 3rd October in Centenary Hall at 1.30pm. Parents of those performing will be contacted in due course.

Education Question Time, Thursday 10th October (all parents)

On Thursday 10 October, Dean Close will host a unique and exciting debate to be hosted by Jeremy Vine from 7.00-9.00pm.  Education Question Time (#EduQT) will include the panellists Lord David Blunkett, local MP Alex Chalk, cyber expert Professor Richard Benham, the Warden of Dean Close, Emma Taylor, and The Independent Newspaper Education Correspondent, Eleanor Busby.  The panel will tackle questions from the floor relating to the future direction and content of education for the 21st century.

Preceding the above will be a Pupil Debate involving a number of pupils from a range of local schools. This event will run from 5.30pm-6.15pm.  The bar will be open between these events.

Tickets for the Main Event are £5 plus admin charges (free to 18s and under) and can be purchased directly from the Bacon Theatre by calling 01242 258002 or via the Box Office website https://bacontheatre.ticketsolve.com/shows.

Parents’ Social Hockey (all parents)

Would you like to play some hockey on Saturday mornings? The Parents’ hockey club is always welcoming new members whether you’re an expert, looking to brush up on your skills, or have never played before!

The club meets on Saturdays during term time at 8am for an 8.15am pushback, with coffee afterwards.

VE Day Early Bank Holiday, 8th May 2020 (all parents)

The government has moved the early May Bank Holiday so that VE Day itself will fall on a bank holiday. Therefore the Dean Close Foundation has moved its Exeat to match these dates. Please note the following important information:

  • The school will close for Exeat on Thursday 7th May at 4.15pm
  • School will re-open for boarding pupils on Sunday 10th May (after 6.00pm)
  • School will expect all pupils in school for lessons on Monday 11th May

Dean Close Services are offering an EARLY BIRD discount of 10% if you book your son/daughter onto the camp for the full 3 days only. Early bird discount will end on Monday 5th November. There is no discount code needed, it is already calculated in the overall price for 3 days.

If you want to include a sibling discount to your booking, you can work this out against the number of sessions you want to pay for. Sibling discount is 10% offset against child 1. For this, please select the ‘other discount’ option on the form and enter manually below.
