Effort Card Information

Please click here to access information on the pupil Effort Cards. These are published at the start of half term.

Dropping pupils off at the start of the school day (all day parents)

To assist day parents who need to drop pupils off early, pupils may be dropped off from 7.45am. Pupils must then go to Oaksey House, where a member of house will supervise pupils until 8.00am when all other Day Houses open.

No pupil should arrive in school before 7.45am unless they are supervised by a parent, as we are unable to provide supervision before this time.

However, if pupils do arrive earlier than this they should go to dining room where they can be signed in and have breakfast, with the cost added to the bill.

Mobile Phone Policy (all parents)

As you are aware, the Parents’ Handbook highlights the aim to make DCPS a mobile ‘phone free zone for day pupils (Boarders have their own guidelines).

However, there are some exceptional circumstances when it is necessary for a child to bring a mobile into school. On these occasions the mobile phone must be handed in immediately the child arrives in school to the Houseparent for safe keeping during normal school hours, the phone must never be taken into the changing rooms and should only be used once the child has left the school grounds.

Recently, it has been noted that several children are bringing mobile phones into school and we therefore feel it necessary to remind you of the procedure regarding the granting of this special permission.

Pupils are only allowed mobile phones in school if they have had permission from the Deputy Head (Logistics and Compliance), Mr J Harris (jebharris@deanclose.org.uk)

If you have not done so already, then please contact him in writing requesting consent, if you consider it imperative that your son or daughter has a mobile phone in school. Permission is required for any time children want to bring their phones into school e.g. an occasional use or a one off occasion.

It should be noted that children can, with permission, use a House landline during the School day. In accordance with our School Policy there will be periodic checks to make sure that mobiles are not being kept in school bags or pockets.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this matter.

On Friday 18th October the school will close for half term after our annual House Cross-Country race at approximately12.40pm.

We would like to draw your attention to the following details:

  • All parents are warmly invited to attend our Chapel Service that begins at 10.30am in the School Chapel. Parents are requested to sit upstairs.
  • Parent(s),/Guardian(s) are then invited for coffee and pastries in the school dining room, whilst the pupils change for their Cross-Country races.
  • Boys should wear white shorts, white socks, House polo shirt and trainers.
  • Girls should wear blue shorts, white socks, House polo shirt and trainers.
  • 11.40am Junior Cross-Country Race: Years 3 and 4.

  • 12.15pm Senior Cross-Country Race: Years 7 and 8.
  • Half Term begins at the end of the Senior Race at 12.40pm approximately and all pupils should ensure that they have signed out from their Houses.
  • If you are arriving before 12.00pm, it would be very helpful if you could park in the areas listed below to enable Pre-Prep pupils to be picked up safely.
  • All day pupils should take all their belongings home at the start of half term.
  • Please note that Day houses will close at 1.00pm on Friday 19th October.

To help with parking we would also like to suggest the following options:

  1. There is parking available on Humpty Dumpty, please click here to access a Google map.
  2. Sports Hall
  3. Shelburne Road and Hatherley Court Road (please be considerate to residents by not blocking driveways).

Dance at Teatime, Tuesday 15th October (all parents)

All parents are cordially invited to our first ‘Dance at Teatime’ concert in the Centenary Hall on Tuesday 15th October, from 4.30-5.30pm. Please come along to see the dancers in action, to listen to the ideas of the dance teachers and to enjoy a cup of tea and a cake beforehand. The idea behind this is to show parents what goes on in a dance class, so this is an informal event, not a polished concert.

As it is not possible to fit everyone in the time slot, not every pupil who dances is included in this particular event – there will be other opportunities in the future.

Parent Workshop, Tuesday 15th October (all parents)

All parents are welcome to the Michaelmas Parent Workshop on Tuesday 15th October, 6.00-7.30pm, in the Drama room. The topic this time is:

“How do we keep the channels of communication open with our children?” and will be led by Madeline Stanimeros, a local speaker, author, parenting guru AND mother of five!

In a response to previous events, a creche (for pupils at DCPS in Years 3-8) will be available for those who would otherwise find it difficult to attend due to issues with childcare arrangements at that time of the day. Supper at school will be provided and full supervision will continue afterwards, until the workshop finishes.

Please let Mrs Hunt (alhunt@deanclose.org.uk) know if you would like to attend and if you plan to leave your children in the pop-up creche. Please state how many children you will be leaving and their ages. All childcare requests must be received by Friday 11th October.
