General notices

DCPS Values Survey for Parents (all parents)

As you know, Dean Close Preparatory School takes its ethos very seriously and places it at the heart of everything we do. As mentioned to parents at the start of the school year, we are currently reviewing which specific values we should be placing front and centre of the work we do to create citizens for the next century.

As a parent you will have seen the school in action and have valuable perspectives on the life of the school. Therefore, we invite you to take this short, 3 minute survey to share your opinions on the values you think we should be focusing on. Please click here to access the survey.

The school would welcome any other feedback on values, so if you have more to say but cannot easily fit in here, feel free to email Mr Kevin Donnelly, Director of Studies (kdonnelly@deanclose.org.uk) who is overseeing this research.

Ticket Information for DCPS Senior Production: ‘Annie’ (all parents)

Tickets (free of charge) for our production are now open to the general public via the Bacon Theatre website www.baconthearte.co.uk

There is availability for each of the 3 performances on Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th and Friday 29th November at 7pm in the Centenary Hall. The performance running time is approximately 2 hours and the production is suitable for all ages.

Anti-Bullying Week (all parents)

During next week, Monday 11th November, we will be taking part in the National Anti-Bullying Week.  Pupil volunteers will take part in a film making competition on Tuesday and Thursday during first break, and will be offered the chance to wear odd socks on Tuesday the 12th, so please come prepared, the brighter the better!  All pupils will also be given via their houses a Dean Close Anti-Bullying wristband to wear during the week.  The theme is ‘Change Starts With Us’, emphasising the need for a community drive on inclusivity and widening our friendship circles to include people we do not usually talk to.  The pupils will also complete a survey on bullying so we can check on how included or left out they feel at school. This is done every year around this time and has resulted in changes to break time supervision and a friendship bench too.  Tutor time and house time will continue the conversation around this national theme.

I am sure you will all want to support this critical initiative but if you have any questions, please email Mrs Sarah Davies, Head of PSHCE and Wellbeing on sadavies@deanclose.org.uk.

Christmas Appeal for ‘Family Space’ (all parents)

All pupils will be given a full tube of Smarties after House Cross Country, kindly donated by Family Space.  Our Christmas charity appeal this year starts with eating the Smarties and then filling the tube with coins, preferably 20ps.  Please return the full tubes after half term to Houses.  It would be wonderful to have a really positive response to this appeal and half term may provide good opportunities for pupils to do some useful jobs to earn the money to fill the tube.

Charity Fair (all parents)

All parents, family and friends are invited to the Dean Close Preparatory School Charity Fair, starting at 2.30pm on Friday 22nd November.  Our nominated charity for the second year is ‘Family Space’ – a local charity supporting families as they manage the ups and downs of family life.

Children may come to School in home clothes on the day, but we would be grateful for a £1.00 donation for the privilege.  Children may bring up to £5.00 in small change (in a purse or wallet) to the Fair. For parents there is no limit!  As usual, there will be lots of stalls devised and set up by the children themselves.

If you have anything we could auction, please contact Mrs Hunt: alhunt@deanclose.org.uk

Christmas Jumper Day (all parents)

On Friday 6th December everyone in the Prep School is invited to wear a Christmas jumper in support of our nominated charity ‘Family Space’. Pupils will be asked to bring in a donation of £1.00 for this event.

Sip and Shop, 6.30-8.30pm Wednesday 4th December (all parents)

All members of the Dean Close Community and their friends and family (adults only preferred please) are welcome to gather at Centenary Hall at DCPS for a pre-holiday shopping event!

On sale will be items made and sold by members of the Dean Close community, parents and relatives.  This is a great way to support small businesses and get stocking stuffers, staff and teacher gifts, have a glass of wine and socialise before the Christmas break is upon us.

Jewellery, accessories, clothing, gift baskets, personalised items, essential oils, packaged food gifts, toys, and many more offerings will be available for purchase.

For booth enquiry please contact Mrs Victoria Robb at 077412022662 or email vrobbdesigns@gmail.com

Dean Close Choral Society (all parents)

Parents, Staff, ODs, Friends, and Neighbours – all are welcome to join the Dean Close Choral Society; an ability to read music at some level is helpful.  Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 7.00pm for an hour in the music department at the Senior School.  The rehearsal dates for our next concert are:  5th, 12th, 19th and 26th November, 14th, 21st, 28th January, 4th February and an afternoon rehearsal on 9th February.
