AMADEUS by Peter Shaffer
MAIN SCHOOL PLAY
29 & 30 NOVEMBER 2019
BACON THEATRE, 7.15pm
We are delighted to announce that we will be mounting a production of this famous play by Shaffer, made into a wonderfully successful film in 1984, which was nominated for 11 Oscars and won 8.
It tells the story of the once-famous composer Salieri (now a forgotten mediocre relic) and his furious jealousy of the young, vibrant but giggling and obscene childish-idiot-genius called Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
A Night at the Movies
Friday 6 December, 7.00pm, Bacon Theatre
Come along and enjoy an evening of musical numbers from many of your favourite films – ET, Schindler’s List, Despicable Me, Skyfall and lots more. Orchestra, Close Harmony, Concert Band, Sinfonia, Ripieno Strings, Jazz Band and Brass Group will all feature during the evening, along with five different soloists – nearly 90 musicians in all!
Mince pies, mulled wine, tea and coffee will be served in the Dining Hall during the interval and the concert will finish at approximately 9.00pm.
There is no charge for entry but there will be a retiring collection in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity.
Thursday 5 December, 4 to 6.30pm
This year, we are once again hosting a Christmas Fair which presents a great opportunity for people to get ahead on a little bit of Christmas shopping. Do come along and support this really festive event!
JANUARY TRIAL EXAMS
Fifth Form (Tuesday 7 to Saturday 18 January)
Upper Sixth (Tuesday 7 to Monday 13 January)
After the Christmas break, the Fifth and Upper Sixth will be on study leave to sit trials in the Old Gym. During this period, Day pupils only need to be in school for the trials, while Boarders are expected to work in Houses. In addition, all pupils in teams are expected to meet games commitments, and any extra-curricular lessons need to be arranged around the trials. Timetables have been given out to pupils and are now available on Pupil and Parent Apps. If your son or daughter is going to be absent from any of the trials, please contact his/her Houseparent. Fifth Form pupils are back in normal lessons on Monday, 20 January, and Upper Sixth on Tuesday, 14 January.
The school is looking at offering cardiac screening in school with CRY (cardiac risk in the young) with a criteria age range of 14-35. The cost would be £50 per pupil.
Please would you let us know if you would be interested in having your child screened as we need a minimum number of pupils to go ahead with this.
If you have any further questions after reading the attached link, please feel free to contact the nurses in the Health Centre.
