SCHOOL VISIT – NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP SHOW
The National Apprenticeship Show is on our doorstep this year at the Cheltenham Race course, taking place on Wednesday 3 October from 1.20-3.20pm. A huge range of employers will be there for pupils to explore.
Our next Open Morning is on Saturday 13 October 2018 and we invite existing and prospective parents to come along.
Irina Krasotina in Concert
We are delighted to welcome international pianist, Irina Krasotina, to Dean Close School. She will be giving a masterclass to some of our most advanced pianists on Thursday 4 October and will give a recital in our Fridays at 6 series the following day when she will be playing a selection of short pieces by composers such as Glinka, Granandos, Khachaturian and Rachmaninov.
We would be very pleased if audience members were able to treat the evening as a ‘concert of two very different halves’, returning to the PMH for our New Pupils’ Recital after the Reception. Please do rsvp for catering purposes.
James Shone: ‘I Can I Am’
Wednesday 10 October 2019 at 7.00pm in the Bacon Theatre with refreshments available in the Orangery from 6.30pm.
The Headmaster warmly invites you to a talk by inspirational speaker and Founder of ‘I Can I Am’, a charity founded three years ago by ex-teacher James Shone. Following a 16 year teaching career, James was appointed as a headmaster in 2012. During a medical assessment, a brain tumour was discovered. Over the coming months James underwent two massive operations spending eleven weeks in hospital.
The operations ultimately saved his life, but took away most of his sight. James had to relinquish a dream job, undergo radiotherapy and set off on his future with no job, no sight and diminished hope. James’ story is one of determination, courage and positivity. James will be speaking to pupils earlier in the day but also has a tailored message for our parents followed by a question and answer session.
James is a friend of Dean Close School and an inspiring speaker who I would warmly recommend to you. If you would be interested in joining other members of the Parents’ Society for what is set to be an excellent evening, could I ask you to please contact my PA Jane (email@example.com) so that we can gauge potential numbers for the event.
Sports physiotherapy provision
We are delighted to be able to promote further medical provision, primarily to support injuries sustained through sport. We have been able to secure the services once more of physiotherapist Luke Croughton (Gloucester Rugby and Pro-performance UK) who will operate out of the sports hall classroom on a Monday evening.
