Another busy week comes to a close, and it has been a particularly busy one for the U18 girls, who have competed in both the County Netball Competition, and the West Hockey Preliminary Finals, where they beat both Bristol Grammar 4-0 and Marlborough 3-1 to progress through to the West Finals in November. Our U15 boys progressed through to the 3rd round of the National Rugby Competition with a closely contested game against St Peter’s, Gloucester, and our Golf team, after recording two wins on the bounce, played well in challenging conditions, but narrowly lost to Marlborough College 2-3.

The Remove Geographers returned from a fascinating few days in Snowdonia, having collected data for their coursework and taking in the stunning scenery.

Last night, saw the Junior Critical Essay Competition draw to a close. The standard was incredibly high across the board with a diverse range of topics being discussed and proposed. The winner was Tilly Amess with her Essay entitled ‘The discovery of mental health as an issue has had the greatest influence on humanity’, with Beth Ellison as the runner up with her essay on ‘The discovery of drugs has had the greatest influence on humanity’.

Louis Morford entertained a hugely appreciative audience in our Friday’s at 6 Music Series. It is astonishing to see our pupils perform in this environment with such skill and confidence. This comes on the back of a fantastic Orchestral Day on Tuesday, when we hosted 96 pupils from a variety of Prep Schools, where our teachers and pupils worked with them to produce a fabulous concert enjoyed by the proud parents at the end of the afternoon.

Dean Close Video Channel

Dean Close School has a brand new video channel #Deanflix!

This channel will be home to a collection of films, put together in series form, giving exposure to unique pockets of life, thoughts and feelings around the School, providing an insight into the real experiences of a variety of members of the Dean Close community. It begins in the Art Department, examining individual pieces through the eyes of their artists, providing an understanding into what motivates andinspires each pupil to create their artwork.

The first in this series features an interview with Head of Art Caroline Evans and Head of Ceramics Angela Ash. A new video will be released each week.
