Highlights of the Week

  • The Music Scholars’ Concert on Friday provided a wonderful evening of entertainment, and we were delighted to have Helen Porter with us in the audience.
  • The Leiths pupils provided a wonderful assortment of canapes after the Scholars’ Concert, which is part of their coursework requirement. What a treat!
  • Pupils and Staff gathered on Sunday to mark Remembrance Day with a poignant service. We are grateful to all the day parents who brought their sons and daughters in.
  • RocSoc on Sunday evening was a really successful event with amazing lighting and sound effects. Well done to all the performers.
  • The U14 Netball team played superbly to win the County title on Monday to progress to the Regional Finals, and the U16s lost narrowly in the final of their County Championship.
  • Upper 6th Historians enjoyed their trip to London on Tuesday.
  • On Tuesday we welcomed Admissions Officers from USA and other overseas universities to talk with our pupils. Well attended and very useful!
  • Blue Caterpillar were back in talking to the 5th Form about revision techniques, a sign that exams are drawing near.

Fifth Form Parents’ Presentation and Meeting

22 November 2019

On Friday 22 November at 3.15pm we will be hosting a Fifth Form Information Meeting for all of the Fifth Form along with their parents and guardians.  The information meeting will give details on Sixth Form studies at Dean Close and we will run through the timeline between now and the end of Fifth Form.

This meeting will take place in the Bacon Theatre and immediately precedes the Parents’ Meeting which starts at 4.00pm in the Dining Room.

We would encourage as many parents and guardians to attend as possible.

Dean Close Email

Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 November

As a result of the problems during the recent half term, we have some essential corrective work to complete on the email system.

The email system will be offline and will not be accessible from Saturday 16 November at 14.00 for a period of 24 hours. All incoming emails sent during this time will be held in a queue and will be delivered when normal system service resumes.

There may also be a period of slower performance affecting the email system into Monday as further work is carried out in the background, but this should clear up as the day progresses. The fewer the number of emails that are coming in during this period, the quicker we will be able to get the system running at full capacity.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this regard.

AMADEUS by Peter Shaffer

MAIN SCHOOL PLAY

29 & 30 NOVEMBER 2019

BACON THEATRE, 7.15pm

We are delighted to announce that we will be mounting a production of this famous play by Shaffer, made into a wonderfully successful film in 1984, which was nominated for 11 Oscars and won 8.

It tells the story of the once-famous composer Salieri (now a forgotten mediocre relic) and his furious jealousy of the young, vibrant but giggling and obscene childish-idiot-genius called Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Advent Concert

Friday 6 December

Do please save the date for our biennial Advent Music Concert taking place on Friday 6 December. It promises to be an entertaining evening.

Floss Friday

Brook Court will be selling candy floss every Friday lunchtime in the day village from next Friday (exeat Friday). Every pound raised will be donated to teamtrees – every £1 plants a tree!

It should help out carbon footprint but also help to bring the houses together in the middle of the day village space.
