We are grateful to all the parents who made arrangements to bring their children in to School for the Remembrance Service, which was once again an appropriately dignified occasion.
Both the boys and the girls have been busy on the Sports Field again this week, with the U14 girls following up their hockey victory last week, by winning the County Netball Championships on Monday. Our U15 boys lost a very tight game against Cheltenham College 22-17 in their National Cup match and the 1st XV won 50-20 away from home against RGS High Wycombe to progress to the last 16 of the National Cup. The 1st XI girls’ Hockey team played some glorious hockey to finish 2nd in the West Finals and will have one more match to win a place in the National Finals next term.
An appreciative audience enjoyed the lunchtime music concert on Thursday, where we saw the Cor Anglais in performance for the first time, and Ashok Gupta OD performed at our Fridays @ 6 Musical Concert, and stunned with his skill and fluency.
Our Leiths pupils were involved in a fantastic event on Thursday evening providing, alongside the Virtual School pupils, a fantastic spread of canapes for the guests who celebrated the Virtual School 10th Anniversary Awards, which was hosted in the Bacon Theatre.
Last evening, the 6th Formers enjoyed the comforts of their 6th Form Social Centre for their first Movie Night. It was great to see them taking this initiative and making all the arrangements. Whilst out on the newly resurfaced Ellams Hockey Pitch, the staff pitted their skills against the Dean Close Parents.

Art Series Episode 4 – For Him
A Level artist, Irene Garcia Rodriguez, talks about her GCSE piece created in memory of her brother. This incredibly moving piece delves into the contrasts between the strength of soldiers versus their vulnerability. Irene explains that art is an escape for her and that coming to Dean Close has allowed her to break out of her comfort zone to produce a piece that she felt was her “duty”.
From the Chaplain
As with last year, all parents, guardians and sixth formers are warmly invited to a presentation about Lymington Rushmore Holidays at Bayley House on Sunday 26 November. These are holidays for young people and teenagers run in the beautiful surroundings of Hordle Walhampton School down on the south coast. Each holiday offers a multitude of activities encompassing everything from simulated sky diving to water sports and the more sedate sketching or just plain lazing around in the sun, alongside superb opportunities to explore the Christian faith. Katie and I enjoyed the holidays as teenagers (indeed that’s where we met!), and continue to help lead them every summer. We can’t recommend them highly enough. More information can be found here.
Tea, coffee and cake will be served from 1830 on the 26th of November, after which there will be a short presentation and a chance to ask questions. RSVPs to firstname.lastname@example.org. All welcome!
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh
On Thursday the Bronze D of E programme was launched for the 4th Form. For further information, please see the attached document. If you have any queries in this regard please contact Sara Paterson on email@example.com.
