For the fifth straight year in a row, Dean Close tennis girls have won the Midland Schools Girls’ Tournament, held at King Edward VI High School in Edgbaston for its 106th year. This follows the success of Elsa Pool and Judy Richardson who won the tournament in the previous four years.

Sona Tatarian (in the Lower Sixth) and Alice Howitt (currently in DCPS Year 8) played in the A draw winning all their matches to make the final where they played a very tight match against King’s High, winning 7-5.

Lola Blacker (Fifth Form) and Lydia Ward (Fifth Form) played in the B draw and also made it to the final where they came across another strong King’s High team that had beaten them already in the group stages. However, the girls focused and worked really well together and took the match 6-2.

This means that Dean Close retains the huge shield for another year, a wonderful result.
