We are very lucky to have an amazing wealth of music at Dean Close Pre-Prep, with children taking part in Singing Squirrels (our ‘choir’ for Year 1 and 2 pupils who love to sing), the Squirrel Strings, exciting music lessons from Kittens to Year Two pupils in addition to learning individual instruments.

This term the Year Two pupils have started a new music programme.  Classes are divided into three groups with one group learning to play a DooD (a clarinet for young children), another learning about composers and music genres and the other learning to play percussion instruments.  The groups rotate so that all children will cover these activities through the year and we are looking forward to a concert in the future featuring the ‘DooDs’!

Many of our children learn individual instruments and have the opportunity to perform at our informal concerts during the term.  This term we were very proud of the children who, as ever, were very keen to perform to their parents, friends and teachers.  For some children it was the very first time they had played to an audience even after only a few lessons.  It is a testament to our wonderful music teachers that they display such enthusiasm and self-assurance at such a young age.

At the end of term, it was fantastic to hear the Strings and the Singing Squirrels perform brilliantly at our Christingle service to families, friends and guests who were all very impressed with their confidence and high standard. Well done to you all!
