On Monday 20October, 37 members of Chapel Choir left School for an exciting 5 days in New York accompanied by 5 members of the Common Room. The choir performed three concerts in the Church of the Transfiguration, St Patrick’s Cathedral and St Paul’s Chapel. We were particularly pleased to welcome back a good number of ODs to St Paul’s Chapel some of whom hadn’t met up for a long time. All the concerts were well received and even included members of Common Room who happened to be on holiday at the same time.

The rest of our time was filled with visits to noticeable land-marks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the MOMA & Guggenheim Art Museums.A particular highlight was cycling and boating in Central Park.On our penultimate day, we visited the 9/11 site where we were given an emotional and thought-provoking tour in the pouring rain by both a survivor and two New York residents who had lost loved ones in the 2001 tragedy. In sharp contrast, the evening trip to Matilda on Broadway was the perfect antidote.

The New York culture was sampled with trips to the Hard Rock Café and Planet Hollywood and, of course, plenty of shopping!
