At the start of the Trinity Term girls and boys in Years 3 and 4 welcomed the Northern Ballet Company into School. 30 enthusiastic pupils participated in a workshop based on the Company’s current production of ‘The Ugly Duckling’. Firstly pupils moved around the room to 8 beats, during which they moved quickly, slowly, melted to the floor and got up again in an unusual manner. They then practised some traditional ballet positions, 1st position and 2nd position whichhelped prepare themto ‘become’ the ugly duckling. Everyone then had the chance to move like a duckling, combining both artistic ballet moves and clever choreography.

Lynne Lawrence, Director of Drama said, “It was wonderful to watch the children. Their concentration, ability to take instruction and interpret those instructions was fantastic. Also to watch professional ballet dancers, who were so graceful, work with the children was a real privilege. Thank you to the Northern Ballet Company for joining us for a wonderful afternoon.
