THE COLLECTION

The Dean Close School Archive collects and cares for records and artefacts relating to the School’s history. The collection dates back to 1884, when the School was founded, to the present day and provides an institutional record of what began life as an evangelical school for boys. It includes material from Dean Close Memorial School, later Dean Close School (1886), Preparatory School (1949) and Pre-Preparatory School (2003).

ENQUIRIES

For those researchers wishing to visit the archive please be aware that access is by appointment only so please contact the Archivist on the details given below. On arrival, report to the senior school reception. Proof of identification will be required.

For those unable to visit, the staff are very happy to carry out limited research on your behalf. Please contact the Archives team on either pritchardwoodsg@deanclose.org.uk or cewhitney@deanclose.org.uk or by telephone on 01242 267402 (Tuesday to Thursday term time only). To facilitate your enquiry please provide as much information as you can about your proposed topic. Although the Archive aims to provide a prompt response, this is not always possible as it can take time to carry out the necessary research.

DONATIONS

We are always very grateful to Old Decanians and their families who so kindly donate items to the collection. So, if you are clearing out the loft and happen to stumble on some old photographs, uniforms or school work from your days at Dean Close School that you feel you would like to donate to the School collection, then please contact us.
