Dean Close Geography teacher, Ben Price, took 4th place in Powerman Spain, Mallorca. The gruelling duathlon race consists of a 10km run followed by a 60km undulating bike ride, ending with a final 10km run along the picturesque waterfront of Can Picafort.
The field was stacked with Europe’s finest from the sport, all vying for the top spot in this prestigious and hard fought race. Ben was in 6th place leaving transition for the final run but managed to overhaul two other athletes, including Soren Bystrup who finished 2nd in the World Championships in September. When asked about the race, Ben said, ‘I’m utterly thrilled. I’ve trained seriously hard this winter and was in good form, but to perform so well on the day and race alongside the biggest names in the sport was a real buzz’.
Ben, who runs for the Cheltenham Harriers, will be competing in several local events in the coming weeks before building up to the European Duathlon Championships in Denmark in May. Follow Ben’s duathlon training and racing on Instagram, @benpriceduath.
