Dean Close School is set in 50 acres of private land near the centre of Cheltenham.


The School has excellent facilities including a 550-seat professional Theatre, an Amphitheatre, 2 water based Astroturf Pitches, a 25m indoor heated Swimming Pool, Climbing Wall, Indoor Rifle Range, Chapel, Dance Studio and fully equipped Gymnasium.


The Prep School’s new £4.5 million education centre was officially opened in 2015, which boasts a 360-seater theatre and a music suite with six practice rooms. In addition, there are six bright and spacious new academic classrooms, two drama studios, a new ICT suite along with a beautiful reception area for welcoming visitors and holding events.

The Prep School also has a specialist Art Department (two rooms): a specialist Design Technology Department (the workshop and the D/T computer suite) : six Form Rooms for Years 3 – 5: specialist classrooms for English (2 classrooms): Maths (3 classrooms): Science (2 laboratories and one teaching room): Latin, Religious Studies, Geography, History, French and Spanish (3 classrooms), Music (2 classrooms and Music ICT suite) and 13 peripatetic teaching rooms.

There is also a dining room adjoining the kitchens where all the food is freshly prepared. The Prep School pupils and staff all join each other for lunch every day.


At the Prep School there are three boarding houses on the periphery of the Prep School site.

    • Wilton: a bespoke three story boarding house for girls and boys aged 7-10
    • Fortfield: a bespoke four storey boarding house for girls aged 10 – 13
    • Caldecote: a bespoke four storey boarding house for boys aged 10 – 13

Each of the houses offers modern and comfortable accommodation. On the lower floors there are common rooms, a sitting room with Sky television and games consoles, a Prep Room with computers and access to Sykpe, games rooms with table tennis, pool table, air hockey or table football, a kitchen and changing rooms with showers to be used after games. The Houseparents live on the middle floor with their family. The spacious dormitories are largely on the upper floors of the house. See boarding for further images of the facilities.


There are also three day houses, large sitting rooms and an office which provide a home at School for the day pupils. Each of the houses is equipped with various games tables including table tennis, pool and air hockey.
