Dear Pupils, Parents and Carers,
New learning opportunities and environments abound, as the sudden end of the Lent Term meant that each pupil at the Prep School took home with them their individual ‘Home Learning Pack’. The decision to create physical packs was made in recognition that many pupils and their parents would find the current situation stressful and uncertain. Our aim was to provide quality learning resources which are not reliant on pupils being in front of a screen for hours on end. We wanted to protect their wellbeing and keep things as simple as possible for families. Top tips and clear guidance were offered as pupils and parents became accustomed to their new working and learning arrangements:
Alongside their academic work, each day for the remainder of the Lent Term pupils were sent the ‘DeanClose@home’ update, where our staff shared some creative and engaging activities, distinctive from those found in their Home Learning Pack. Examples ranged from bird watching to skipping rope challenges, from delicious recipes to making wormeries. You can find these newsletters in the DeanClose@home Newsletters TAB.

However, we also recognise that marking and feedback are critical elements of the teaching and learning process. Therefore, the Home Learning Pack makes up just Phase 1 of a carefully considered programme of learning. Should the school remain closed after the Easter Holidays, we will implement Phase 2. This will involve the use of Google Classroom, which our teachers have been trained to use. It is an easy-to-use tool where teachers can create classes, distribute work, mark and give feedback. Clear instructions on how to access Google Classroom from home will be emailed to parents when necessary.
