Meet The Head

Mr James Cowling

Hello, I am James Cowling, Head teacher at Dean Close Pre-Prep School.
My love of teaching young children began at the age of 12, when I was invited to lead weekly lessons for 5-11 year-olds in the church I attended at the time. There has not been a time since when I was not teaching children or running large, fun children’s events in some capacity or other.

I have taught in many primary schools, both large and small and began life at Dean Close as Deputy Head of the Pre-Prep. It is my absolute privilege to have been leading the School since September 2023, and to be surrounded by such a great and professional team. The most rewarding part of my role is engaging with the pupils and witnessing their enthusiasm for life, curiosity for discovery, and love of learning as they grow in knowledge, confidence, skills, and character.

I believe wholeheartedly that a child learns best when they are happy - and that a joy-filled child learns even better!
My aim is for every child to flourish: to be well known and understood, supported with bespoke learning opportunities tailored to their unique needs and interests, and celebrated at every opportunity. All of this happens within a nurturing, fun-filled learning environment.
