Bucket Time
In Kittens Nursery, one of the most exciting and beneficial activities we offer is Bucket Time—a structured, adult led group session which is designed to enhance children’s attention, listening skills, and social interaction.
Inspired by the Attention Autism approach, this engaging activity helps children develop essential pre-learning skills and form the foundation for future academic success.
What is Bucket Time?
Bucket Time is a carefully planned session where children are immersed in an engaging experience which captivates their interest with a series of exciting and interactive activities led by our experienced educators. The goal is to capture their attention, encourage active participation, and develop essential communication skills.
How It Works
Each Bucket Time session is structured into different stages, ensuring children remain engaged and benefit from a progressive learning experience:
- Stage 1: The Bucket –Three captivating objects or toys are presented and modelled to the children using cause and effect. This captivates and sustains their attention as the teacher engages with the toys.
- Stage 2: Attention Builder – A fun, visually stimulating activity keeps them focused as the teacher uses highly sensory stimuli for the children to watch.
- Stage 3: Interactive Turn-Taking – Children are invited to take a turn and engage with an activity that enables some of the children to participate.
- Stage 4: Independent Exploration – Children apply what they’ve learned through a hands-on experiential activity before returning to the group to share and present their learning to others.
The Benefits of Bucket Time
Bucket Time is much more than just an engaging session—it plays a crucial role in children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development:
Enhances Attention & Focus – Encourages sustained concentration, a key skill for future learning.
Teaches early reading skills and conceptual timelines - Visual representations of each stage are presented on a whiteboard and referred to throughout each stage of the Bucket Time session.
Develops Listening & Communication Skills – Helps children follow instructions and express themselves.
Encourages Turn-Taking & Social Interaction – Fosters patience, cooperation, and teamwork.
Builds Confidence & Engagement – Creates a safe, fun environment where children feel safe as they take a turn and participate with a trusted adult.
Supports Early Learning & School Readiness – Strengthens cognitive skills essential for academic success.
Why We Love Bucket Time!
Bucket Time is a highlight of the day—a moment where children’s eyes light up with excitement, curiosity, and joy. Through storytelling, music, sensory play, and interactive surprises, our dedicated educators create a dynamic experience that makes learning fun, meaningful, and effective. Observing the children as they delight in the wonders of Bucket Time and make rapid progress in their ability to focus and sustain attention is an absolute privilege for the teachers who lead and support the children throughout the session.
