Art

Art is a crucial and ever developing subject at Dean Close Prep. The department aims to inspire, enthuse and give every pupil an interesting and creative experience where they can develop their knowledge, understanding and a variety of skills.

Each pupil is encouraged to achieve high standards, be adventurous and experiment with a variety of media and processes. Sketchbooks are a vital part of their independent learning and pupils are encouraged to make every effort with this aspect to help develop their confidence and extend their capabilities in the subject.

A varied programme of topics and themes are taught throughout the school year and every year group will explore a range of materials, techniques and processes. Some of these include African ‘Tinga Tinga’ themed batik cushions, Banksy-inspired stencils, ceramic ‘monster’ vessels, acrylic painted canvases, still life tonal drawings and charcoal gargoyles to name but a few. Pupils may also participate in the wide variety of creative clubs on offer.

Art Scholarships

At the discretion of the Art Department, pupils in Year 6 and Year 8 may be invited to apply for an Art Scholarship.
