Art

We recognise the importance and need to provide stimulating, creative opportunities which can support our pupils in the 21st century workplace. As such, Art is a vital and thriving subject which maintains a high profile, with work exhibited all around the School.

Our exceptional purpose-built two-storey Art School provides a versatile and creative environment, with excellent studio spaces for specialist work in 2 and 3 dimensions, and individually allocated work areas for Sixth Form pupils.

The Department is run with a Fine Art emphasis; the disciplines of painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics are of particular strength, but opportunities to work with printmaking, digital photography and Photoshop are also popular.

The Department ethos focuses on individuality and ownership, leading to many diverse, very personal portfolios. Standards and exam grades are consistently high and a good proportion of pupils go on to continue their artistic education in some of the country's most acclaimed Art Schools such as The Slade, UAL and UCL.

Exhibitions are held in the department's BonBernard Gallery throughout the year and feature both the work of professional artists and that of our own pupils, both past and present.

Programmes of study are enriched with inspirational workshops from a wide variety of professional artists and field trips to Oxford, London and Gloucester Cathedral to name a few. Excursions provide crucial stimulus for our pupils and regular visits are made to galleries as well as art trips further afield, most recently to Florence and Venice.
