The Edexcel A level Business syllabus includes the following key themes:
Theme 1: Marketing and people (including market research, demand and supply, elasticity, recruitment, selection and training, motivation and leadership)
Theme 2: Managing business activities (including sources of finance, cash flow, break-even, budgets, productivity, capacity utilisation and external influences)
Theme 3: Business decisions and strategy (including objectives and strategy, growth, mergers and takeovers, investment appraisal, decision trees and critical path analysis, culture, ethics and ratio analysis)
Theme 4: Global business (including growing economies, international trade, globalisation, protectionism, global mergers and joint ventures, global marketing, global industries and companies and ethics)
How will I be examined in A level Business?
Paper 1: Marketing, people and global business, 2-hour examination which assesses Themes 1 and 4; 35% of the qualification
Paper 2: Business activities, decisions and strategy, 2-hour examination which assesses Themes 2 and 3; 35% of the qualification
Paper 3: Investigating business in a competitive environment, 2-hour examination which assesses content from all four themes and based around a pre-released context document; 30% of the qualification.
