Nyakatukura Memorial Secondary School is in an exciting stage of its development. As a Church of Uganda school, it now falls under the supervision of the newly-consecrated bishop of Northwest Ankole Diocese, Rt Rev Amos Mugezi. Bishop Amos is keen to work closely with Dean Close in our partnership with NMS. Emma Taylor, our Warden, and David Evans, Director of External Relations and Head of our Uganda Link were able to attend the celebration of the first anniversary of the new bishopric in Ibanda along with 3,000 people from the local and national community.
After 12 years’ loyal service, Rev Agasha Muhwezi has stepped down from the position of Head Teacher, and he has been succeeded by Caleb Tusingwire. Agasha has overseen much of Nyakatukura’s development and will be greatly missed, but we look forward to working closely with Caleb and his staff.
Much of the infrastructure of the school site has now been built but the current buildings need to be future-proofed (i.e. completely finished off), especially the Science Laboratory Block. There will probably also now be a focus on recruiting and retaining experienced teachers, which is key to the continuing development of the school’s A Level programme. However, the new Head Teacher and his Governors will review the current situation and we will provide whatever support is requested as they do this.
