A huge congratulations to both the girls’ U11 and U13A hockey teams, both teams played well and won the Severnside tournament for their age group, the U13A team winning jointly with St John’s-on-the-Hill. In the U13A tournament there were two groups followed by semi-finals and then a final. Our team won their group, won a semi-final against Tockington Manor 1-0 and then in an exciting final, scored first, but St John’s equalised shortly before full time. Five minutes of extra time couldn’t separate the teams so in the spirit of a friendly competition, the shield was shared. The U11s had a round-robin tournament meaning they played all of the other six teams. With victories of 4-0, 2-0, 1-0, 2-0, 2-0 and 1-0 they were
by far the strongest side.
In addition, earlier in the season the U11sdid exceptionally well coming thirdin the IAPS regionals, qualifyingfor the National finals, where they finished a very respectable 14th in the country.
West Region Finals
A special mention must go to Mimi Gleeson and Lucy Humphreys, two of our Year 8 girls, who stepped up to play in the U14 squadthat won the West region finals and will play in the National finals at Lee Valley (Olympic Park) in March.
Mrs Bailey, Head of Girls’ Games said, “Our results this term have shown that girls’ hockey at DCPS is as strong as ever and it is especially exciting to see our U11s doing so well, knowing they have two more years at DCPS ahead of them. There have been fantastic results across the School, from the U8s, to the 7th team to the 1sts. Every girl has played a full part in representing the School this term.”
