A gentle breeze offered cool relief from the glorious summer sun as parents, children, family and friends gathered on the sports field for the annual Sports Day.
Over the past weeks every child has participated in track or field event heats with the finals of each event being held on Sports Day. Surrounded by eager supporters there was a record breaking start to the day’s events as Corinna Clarkson beat her own personal record and the school record in the girls’ 800m, completing the race in a rapid 2.45.09 minutes. The boys’ race was equally as fast with Joe Stocks beating the current Year 5 record in a time of 2.42.88 minutes and Arthur Clarkson beating the Year 3 record.
Corinna Clarkson then went on
toestablish a new Year 5 record in the
400m with a time of 1.15.75 minutes
with Ella Moody coming a close second
and also beating the current school
record. Corinna’s brother, Patrick
Clarkson,went on to createa new Year
7, 1500m record.
The field events proved equally as exciting with Suzie Carter throwing the javelin a massive 29.22m, nearly 6m further than the current record. Billy Benson threw the cricket ball 54.60m, beating the current Year 6 record of 52.60m.
The final events of the day were the house relays. Theseare always keenly contested events with all runners striving to give their best for their houses. The inter-relays were both won by Deacon, with Yeaman claiming both boys’ and girls’ senior relays.
