The annual Spring Concert this year took place on Mother’s Day at the Pittville Pump Room, and comprised of a wonderful and varied mixture of choral and instrumental music.

After an extremely polished performance by Sinfonia of Grieg’s Praeludium and Mascagni’s Intermezzo, eight talented pupils sang O Clap your Hands by Gibbons, doing great justice to this magnificent and incredibly challenging 8-part anthem. This was followed by Joe Morford performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto, accompanied by Sinfonia. Joe impressed hugely with his musical and technical prowess, command and memory skills, playing the 30 minute piece by memory! The second half of the concert began with the beautiful first movement of Mozart’s dramatic Piano Concerto in D minor¸ played with great sensitivity and control by Janice Ng. Chamber Choir sang Britten’s Hymn to St Cecilia with considerable poise and maturity, followed by some stylish playing, particularly by Jason Richards, of the first movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet. Orchestra ended a wonderful evening with a rousing performance of Finlandia by Sibelius.
