The annual Spring Concert, once again in Pittville Pump Room, was very warmly supported despite the stormy weather. The concert, consisting of two halves, first featured a variety of solo, chamber, choral and orchestral numbers from Dean Close pupils and displayed wide ranging talent across all the year groups. The Bach Concerto for oboe and violin featured dazzling performances by Beth and Tom and was wonderfully supported by the Sinfonia. This was followed by some beautiful chamber playing from Oscar, Chloe and Jason. The first half concluded with polished performances from the Chamber Choir and Orchestra.

The second half of the concert was a performance of Puccini’s Messa di Gloria performed by the Choral Society (a mixture of pupils, teachers, parents and friends) accompanied by the Regency Sinfonia. This work, an early composition by Puccini, is a wonderfully operatic piece with hints of La Boheme and Tosca. It featured many great tunes, wonderful solos by tenor, Tomasz Holownia and bass, Nick Perfect and a full rich-bodied orchestra all superbly controlled by conductor Simon Bell.

A wonderful evening; congratulations to all who took part.
