Congratulations to our teachers Rebecca Condie (Biology) and Ben Price (Geography) in your elite sport selections. Today, Rebecca is co-captaining Scotland’s Senior Women’s Hockey team against Poland at the World Cup Qualifier in Pisa, Italy, and Ben is to represent GBR at the Elite World Duathlon Champs on 6 November in Aviles, Spain.

Rebecca has been co-captain for the past 2 years.  There are 8 teams at this tournament, competing for just one place at the World Cup. The Hockey World Cup will be hosted in Holland and Spain in July 2022.

Rebecca says,
“It’s always a huge honour to represent my country, and this tournament is really exciting for us.  I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to play; this opportunity would not have been possible without the support of the Dean Close community, so I would like to say a big thank you”

Ben has represented GBR at elite level in Duathlon (10km run, 40km bike, 5km run) over middle distance before but this is the first time he has been selected for the standard distance, the most prestigious (and hardest) race in Duathlon. The British Triathlon Selection Committee select a team of four athletes based on qualifying times.  In Ben’s case, previous results have included Winner of the Cheltenham Half Marathon (twice); National Duathlon Champ (overall) 2019 and 4th Elite European Middle Distance Duathlon Champs, Denmark, 2019.

Ben says,
“I am really pleased to have been selected alongside a former British Elite Duathlon Champ and two full-time professional triathletes!  I’m a Housemaster, Geography teacher, husband and father of two, so it’s hard for me to compete with the others but I’m managing! I am incredibly chuffed to have been selected this time, especially as I have just turned 40!”

The Dean Close community wish you both the very best of luck!
