This year’s Prep School Christmas performance was The Railway Children, by Edith Nesbit. This heart-warming classic story is about three children who are forced to move to the countryside and live near a railway station. They occupy themselves by watching the trains and befriending an elderly gentleman who becomes a dear and helpful friend to the family.

Beautifully performed by a cast of 50 talented pupils, from ages 7-13, the lead roles were convincingly played by: Hannah Porter as Roberta, Ethan Bareham as Peter and young Phyllis was played by Niamh Allen. Everyone looked fabulous, dressed in their 1900’s costumes, to depict the era in which the story was set.

“I was delighted to be cast as Roberta, I have always loved the Railway Children and the chance to play a slightly older character who was in charge, was really exciting” said Hannah Porter.

“Not only are all the cast members exceptionally talented, they have worked very hard to produce a first class performance they should be extremely proud of.” explained Lynne Lawrence, Head of Drama.

Delivered on a fantastic set, which took several days to build including a railway platform, the 2 hour show was performed four times over three days, to an audience of over 1200, including four local schools. This is the first of two plays the School will be presenting before the end of term and was the perfect way to start the season’s festivities.
