Highlights of the Week
- Seeing the smiles on the faces of the 5th Form as they finished their Maths trial exam this afternoon.
- Oscar’s Friday @6 musical performance last Friday.
- The 4th Form D of E and Adventure weekend.
- The English National Orchestra and Voces8 workshop on Tuesday, which saw 5 state school partners join us for the afternoon.
- This week we had a visit from the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) who are working with the Department for Education to assess quarantine arrangements and communication documentation relating to the pandemic. We are one of the very first schools to be selected as part of this brand-new process. It was a positive day and the findings have now been passed to the Department for Education.
This is a reminder that we are expecting all pupils and staff to use their home testing kits twice a week as part of the National asymptomatic testing programme for school pupils. We would be really grateful if parents and guardians could support us in this process by reminding pupils to continue testing. All pupils have been issued with a set of tests. See below for details of how to perform the tests.
Lower 6th Futures Presentation
Please find attached a copy of the presentation given to the Lower 6th on Wednesday 28 April. Below is also a YouTube copy of the Assembly in which this was presented. It is essential watching for all Lower 6th.
Return to Sports Fixtures
Saturday 8 May
We are delighted to announce that we are in the process of planning for a return to inter-school matches starting on Saturday 8 May. Please look out for specific details in next week’s mailing. The Sports Department have put in place a comprehensive plan to ensure that matches are carried out in a safe manner. I know that the pupils are really looking forward to the opportunity to compete against other schools. Next week’s fixtures include:
Cricket v RGS Worcester
Tennis v Bloxham
Wearing of Masks
We are hoping that on the 17th of May, the Government will lift the restriction of having to wear masks in the classroom, but until then we need to comply with that guidance. From Tuesday 4th May we are however making an adjustment to our mask wearing policy, which still adheres to Government guidelines.
When moving around the school site outside, pupils and staff may remove their masks. Whilst standing still or queueing, masks must be worn. It is really important that pupils and staff seek to maintain their 2 metres of distance from one another. Examples:
Queueing in the quad for Science lessons
Queueing for lunch outside the Dining Hall
Waiting for your teacher outside the MFL Classrooms
Inside School Buildings – except your own Boarding House
Walking from Geography to MFL
Walking from MFL to the Sports Hall
Walking from the Day Village to Maths, etc.
AS SOON AS YOU ENTER A BUILDING OR ARE STANDING STILL IN A QUEUE – MASK UP!
This is very challenging to ‘police’, and as such we are relying on all members of the school community to be responsible in playing their part. If this doesn’t work, and these guidelines are ignored we will simply need to revert to previous guidance.
Angus Caton Memorial Bench
After a heroic fight against brain and later spinal cancer, Angus died aged 14 1/4yrs on 28th June 2020. His family are raising funds to commission a metal bench to be made by a local blacksmith and placed outside Dale House in the Senior School. Angus loved Dale and Dean Close but his strength, resilience, and indomitable humour was also a huge inspiration to all who knew him. The bench will provide a special place where pupils can congregate, relax and remember the gift and joy of life.
