Highlights of the Week:

  • It was really good to see so many family and friends at Commem supporting the pupils in this special celebration.
  • The pupils have been fully engaged in exams this week and for those writing internal exams, gives us a real opportunity to assess their level of understanding.
  • The Music A Level Compositions performance on Friday afternoon was quite something to be behold. To see their pieces being performed was clearly very satisfying for this hard working cohort.
  • We look forward to the Cricket and Tennis fixtures this afternoon.

Pupils Driving Into School – 6th Form Only

In order for us to ensure the safety of all our pupils, it is essential that we obtain certain details. If your son or daughter currently drives to School, or intends to drive to School in the near future, we would be grateful if you could carefully read the attached letter and then complete and return the proforma provided at your earliest convenience to the Front Office. We really appreciate your assistance in this regard.

Science Festival: 5 to 10 June

Don’t miss your last opportunity to visit the Cheltenham Science Festival. Do pop in to the Dean Close stand to say hello!

Geography Field Trip: Remove, Tuesday 12 June

Please see the attached letter regarding the Field Trip taking place this coming Tuesday 12 June.

4th Form: Citizenship Week, Monday 25 to Thursday 28 June

During the last week of the school year, all Fourth Form pupils will enjoy four days off-timetable learning more about the surrounding communities, and their roles within these communities. Please see the attached brief which explains more about the various opportunities. If you have any queries, please contact Mr Tomlinson on dwtomlinson@deanclose.org.uk.

Dropping off and Picking up of pupils

We are conscious that Shelburne Road has become increasingly busy and congested and as such, in the view of safety, please could we request that parents do not double park, and do not leave cars unattended on any double yellow lines. The law is very clear on this, and we are receiving an increasing number of complaints from members of the public. We are working with the local Council in this regard. Many thanks for your cooperation.

Summer Holiday Activity

Among the many courses and events happening here at Dean Close over the summer, we are pleased to host the Cheltenham School of Drama, 2018 Summer School. Please see below for further details.

CU Getaway: 19 to 21 Ocotber 2018

Following on from the success of our Christian Union getaway last year, the 2018 trip is booked for 19-21 October (the first weekend of the Michaelmas Half Term break). Once again, we are heading to the well-equipped Heatree Activity Centre situated in the heart of Dartmoor where we shall enjoy the time-honoured mix of good food, laughter, camp fires, walks, with the extra ingredient of talks and seminars digging deeper into the Bible courtesy of Mr Ash’s good friend Mike Sohn. If you would like to book your son or daughter in, please do send Lucy Ackroyd an email (laackroyd@deanclose.org.uk). All are welcome!

Ski Trip: December 2018

Following the highly successful ski trip to Lungau -St Michael in December 2017, we were given a last minute opportunity to run a similar trip this December to the same resort and hotel. We have just 2 places remaining for this trip but we do need to know by Monday 11 June. Please see the attached letter for further details.

Charity Cake Sale: Prep School Sports Day, Saturday 23 June

After the success of the charity cake sale at last year’s Prep School Sports Day, they are going to do it again, this year for Blue Skye Thinking, a Children’s Brain Tumour Charity which is very personal to us as it is founded by members of our Dean Close community who lost their son to the illness.

We are continually amazed by people’s generosity and help in raising money for such worthy causes and hope to make this year as successful as the last.

If you are able to bake something for us to sell we would be very grateful, otherwise just come and support in any way you can. We will also be needing volunteers who may feel they can offer their time to do a stint on the stall so if you are able to either bake something or offer your services please could you email Lucy Sutherlandon lasutherland@deanclose.org.uk.

Thank you in advance for supporting this very worthy charity. You can read more about their work at www.blueskyethinking.org
