Cheltenham Science Festival (all parents)

How does food production currently affect the environment? What foods will we eat in the future? Why not come to the Dean Close stand in the Discover Zone at the Cheltenham Science Festival 4th-9th June and find out more?  One solution to reduce the environmental impact of food production is the farming and consumption of insects as they are easy to farm and use little energy to do so.  Already 2.5 billion people eat insects around the globe!  Take the Dean Close Bushtucker trial on the Dean Close stand and tell us if you think insects are the food of the future!  If you don’t fancy a cricket Caesar salad an alternative is to become vegan which means not eating any kind of animal produce. We will also be putting your taste buds to the test with a chocolate button challenge.  Could you tell the difference between regular and vegan chocolate?  Come and find out!  The Dean Close team look forward to seeing there!

Art Department Budgie Sitting (all parents)

Our Art Department budgies need budgie-sitting over half term and the summer holidays. Please contact Mrs Sutherland lasutherland@deanclose.org.uk

Christian Union Move-Up Sessions (all parents)

To aid the transition between the Christian Union groups as Year 4 becomes Year 5 and Year 6 becomes 7, we will be having special move-up sessions across our CU groups after half term.

On Monday 10th June, Year 4 JCUers will be invited to attend MCU instead, and Year 6 MCUers will be invited to attend SCU instead, just for that week.

Please note the time change for any Year 6 attendees:  SCU takes place at the later time of 5.15pm-6.00pm and so they will need to be picked up at 6.00pm from the front of school.

On Wednesday 19th June, we will be inviting Year 8s to attend the Senior School CU.  This involves games, sung worship and a short talk with some kind of reflection.  This takes place at 5.45pm and ends at 6.30pm.  Pupils will be picked up from houses and taken over to DCS beforehand; they are welcome to stay to dinner with the CU group and can be picked up from the Senior School at 6.30pm, or at 7.00pm if they are staying to eat.

If your child would like to attend, please email Mr Wilding tlwilding@deanclose.org.uk or Miss Huang xyhuang@deanclose.org.uk.  Any Year 8 pupil is welcome, whether or not they are SCU regulars.

Chaplaincy Trip – Reboot London (all parents)

The Chaplaincy, in conjunction with other youth groups in Cheltenham, are organising a trip to Reboot London 2019. This is an interactive day for 12 to 18 year olds to ask their big questions about God, Christianity, faith, life and more.  Hosted globally in cities all around the world, an expert team of speakers and apologists from the Zacharias Trust provide a space for teens to ask any questions, no matter what their worldview or personal persuasion.  Everything from evolution, the reliability and origins of the Bible, to the essence of human identity and mental health will be discussed; all questions are welcome and mutual engagement encouraged.

This year the host is Marvel actor Warner Miller and there will be worship, Q&A sessions using live-streaming technology and engaging talks. We expect there to be something in the region of one and a half thousand young people attending and we would love to add to that number.

All pupils who would like to attend have been allowed to be released from School commitments during the Saturday. At the moment the details are provisional, dependant on final numbers, but we expect to travel by coach and for the following details to be at least ballpark accurate.  Please use the portal below to make a booking and don’t hesitate to ask any questions: jcash@deanclose.org.uk To sign up, please visit the Trinity Church website: www.trinitycheltenham.com
