After enjoying such lovely weather over the Easter period, it felt like winter had returned this week, but it certainly didn’t dampen any spirits or deter our cricketers and tennis players as they kick started their seasons. Our 1st XI Cricket Team enjoyed their first win of the season last Sunday as they played Wycliffe in what was billed as a pre-season friendly. After the weather blighted Thursday’s Tennis matches, we look forward to seeing both the girls’ and boys’ teams in action this afternoon.

Our U14 and U16 Boys’ Hockey teams were in action at Lee Valley this week in the National Finals and must be congratulated on their performances and on the way in which they conducted themselves. They finished 3rd and 4th respectively, which is a fantastic achievement. One of our staff members, has also been very busy on the sporting front, and it is great to be able to announce that Mr Price has been selected to represent the GB Elite Duathlon team in Germany in 3 weeks time.

Last night’s Jazz evening created a fabulous atmosphere as the Dining Hall was transformed into a Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club to coincide with the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. A great antidote as we head towards the end of busy week!

We look forward to the House Evenings tonight and the Leckhampton Hill Picnic tomorrow, and on Monday the week kicks off with the Inter-House Swimming Gala.

REMINDER: Monday 1 May is a normal School day for Dean Close Senior School.

Commemoration: Friday 26 & Saturday 27 May

Please find attached a reply slip for the various events taking place over the Commemoration weekend. The most important part of this reply slip is for the Commemoration Concert on the Friday night, which is a ticketed event due to the fact that we have finite seating in the Bacon Theatre.

For the other Commemoration Events it is really helpful for our planning to have numbers which are as accurate as possible.

If you missed the original Invitation to Commemoration, it can be found in the weekly bulletin from Lent Term – Week 11.

Bronze D of E Expedition, Stroud Valley – Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 June

Pupils can choose whether to leave on the Wednesday afternoon and do 2 nights of camping, or leave on Thursday morning and just do one night of camping.

Please Note: All GCSE PE pupils have to do 2 nights of camping!

Remove pupils will be sent a kit list via email, and Miss Hatchell will be meeting up with them before half term to plan their hiking routes and remind them of what food shopping they will need to do.

The Week Ahead

This term, we are experimenting with a new online Calendar which updates any changes every evening. We are hoping that parents will find this helpful. It is inevitable that there are updates and amendments to any printed calendar, and this Live Calendar gives us an opportunity to keep you informed of any changes as soon we have this information available.

It is still work in progress, and therefore if you have any comments, please contact
