A host of activities have kept our pupils busy this week. The 1st XI Cricket team had a good win against Wrekin on Sunday, and the House Swimming competition saw some very competitive racing, and so too did the House Athletics competition, on a beautifully sunny afternoon at the Prince of Wales Stadium, while the Tennis Club have enjoyed a good start to the term, with some excellent results.

The Confirmation Service on Thursday evening saw the confirmands joined by family and friends to support them on this very special occasion, with the Chamber Choir singing beautifully to enhance the proceedings. The all-important GCSE exams got off to a smooth start on Friday and we wish all of the 5th Form the very best.

On Friday, it was also a pleasure to welcome Alex Chalk MP to speak to our 6th Form Politics class and give them some real insight into the forthcoming General Election. And Friday evening saw the Mead House mother and daughter ballet outing, the Dale House Soiree and the Dean Close Schools’ Musical Celebration. And, a quick breath, before we start the new week!

National Citizenship Service

The National Citizenship Service is a government backed, youth social action programme for 15-17 year olds, and representatives of the local organisation came into school on Thursday to make a presentation to the Fifth Form. We have several pupils who take part in this programme every year (Fifth and L6), and you may want to discuss this opportunity with your son or daughter. The NCS Programme will cost you only £50 for 4 weeks of activity, two of which are residential. This is an amazing offer, for a programme which offers adventure, skills and social action. Universities and employers are increasingly impressed by involvement with NCS and it can also provide the residential element of a Gold Duke of Edinburgh award. Please find attached, a letter of introduction to the programme as well as an application form which you may wish to consider.

Scuba Diving Trip: March 2018

This poses an incredible opportunity for those with a passion for the water, an interest in adventurous activities and a curiosity for the unknown. Please see the attached letter for further details of this exciting trip which will be taking place in the Easter Holidays next year. The trip includes registration and qualification as a PADI diver, which is an internationally recognised scuba diving qualification. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Mochan at dcmochan@deanclose.org.uk for further information.

Gap Year Cooking Skills Course

There is an exciting opportunity for pupils to learn a new skill by engaging with this new Cooking Course to be held during the Summer holidays. Please see below for further details.

The Week Ahead

This term, we are experimenting with a new online Calendar which updates any changes every evening. We are hoping that parents will find this helpful. It is inevitable that there are updates and amendments to any printed calendar, and this Live Calendar gives us an opportunity to keep you informed of any changes as soon we have this information available.

CLICK HERE to access the Live Calendar Feed.

It is still work in progress, and therefore if you have any comments, please contact rerichards@deanclose.org.uk.
