With the 5th Form out of School on exam leave, and the examination season in full swing, the School has taken on a slightly different feel. We have hosted members of the local political parties over the past week to speak with both staff and pupils ahead of the General Election, and on Friday afternoon, 4 of our pupils took part in our very own hustings in the Dining Hall in front of a large gathering of interested pupils and staff.
A packed PMH were treated to another stunning performance by Laurence Kilsby as he entertained in the Fridays at 6 series. We look forward to seeing many of you next weekend for our Commemoration celebrations.
Commemoration: Friday 26 and Saturday 27 May
Please see attached, the Commemoration Weekend timings. This year, our Service will be taking place at Tewkesbury Abbey, and if you are intending to join us for this special occasion, we would be grateful if you could complete and return the attached Attendance Reply Slip, if you haven’t already done so.
Dress Code: Please note that the dress code is Formal. All girls are entitled to wear dresses to the Friday evening Concert, and all the 6th Form girls wear dresses on Saturday to the Service at Tewkesbury Abbey and to the Speeches and Prize Giving. In The Abbey, we expect shoulders to be covered. Dresses should not be too short and not too tight. Boys are required to wear black shoes on this occasion as stipulated in our School Policy.
Parking at The Abbey: There are 3 public car parks in close proximity to The Abbey, namely,
St Marys Lane Car Park, GL20 5RU
Vineyards Car Park, GL20 5PG
Gloucester Road Car Park, GL20 5SW
Parking at Dean Close: Please note that parking will be available on the Railway Tennis Courts on Friday evening (GL51 6EP) for the Concert and Jazz, and on Big Field on Saturday (GL51 6HE).
The entrance to Big Field Parking is through the gates opposite the Chapel and not via the Sports Hall Drive.
Year Group Hosting: We are planning to set up picnic areas around the Cricket Boundary for the different Year Groups, so that parents can gather in those particular locations if they so wish. Feedback from previous years has been, that it is sometimes difficult for parents to locate other families from their child’s year group. We hope that parents find this useful, and if any parents would like to act as a host to introduce parents to one another, please contact Mr Hall on email@example.com.
End of the Day: It is important to note that Commemoration Day does not end until after the Concert Band have finished playing in the Marquee at 4.30pm.
We are providing transport for all the pupils and staff from the School to the service at Tewkesbury Abbey, but if there are any parents who live in the Tewkesbury area and wish to take their sons or daughters direct to the Abbey, please can you let us know by emailing.
We look forward to welcoming you to our celebrations next weekend. If you have any queries in this regard, please contact Karen Evans on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Health & Safety: Shelburne Road
In recent weeks, we have had a few near misses on Shelburne Road as a result of irresponsible or unthinking behaviour. The Shelburne Road divides the Dean Close Campus and as such presents a hazard to the safety of pupils and staff who may be required to cross from one part of the School to the other. The School has worked with the Highways Department to introduce traffic calming measures, but considerable care is still required by pedestrians if accidents are to be avoided.
It is important to note that when crossing Shelburne Road, DCS pupils are encouraged to use the crossing near the Chapel Close entrance. If pupils are crossing directly between the Bursary Drive and the Sports Hall Drive, they must take particular care to observe approaching traffic. They must not to step out from between parked vehicles and never attempt to cross the road whilst using a mobile telephone or when wearing earphones/headphones.
Fourth, Remove and Lower Sixth Internal Exams: Monday 12 to Saturday 17 June
Fourth, Remove and Lower Sixth pupils will be having internal exams in Week 7.
Fourth Form: Monday 12 June to Thursday 15 June;
Remove: Monday 12 June to Wednesday 14 June;
Lower Sixth: Wednesday 14 June to Saturday 17 June.
During this time, Fourth and Remove need to be in school as normal, but have exams instead of normal lessons. The Lower Sixth will be on a study leave: Daypupils only need to be in for the exams, while Boarders are expected to work in Houses; all pupils in sports teams are expected to meet their games commitments; and any extra-curricular lessons need to be arranged around the exams.
If you have any questions or know that your son or daughter will be absent during the internal exams, please contact Dr Bradley at email@example.com as soon as possible.

The Week Ahead
This term, we are experimenting with a new online Calendar which updates any changes every evening. We are hoping that parents will find this helpful. It is inevitable that there are updates and amendments to any printed calendar, and this Live Calendar gives us an opportunity to keep you informed of any changes as soon as we have this information available.
CLICK HERE to access the Live Website Calendar.
It is still work in progress, and we are working with our website providers to resolve the overlapping of the Twitter and Calendar feed on handheld devices. If you have any further comments, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
