Highlights of the Week

  • Seeing the Leiths pupils in action in their final practical assessments, exhibiting the most amazing skills acquired over the duration of the course
  • Watching our girls’ Cricket team take to the field in their first cricket match, which sadly got rained off just after the start.
  • The rain has made the site look luscious and green.

  • Please wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and sanitise when you enter and leave a classroom, dining hall, house room (day or boarding)
  • Adhere to the face mask guidance – AS SEE BELOW!
  • It is really important that pupils and staff seek to maintain their 2m distance from one another at all times, when not wearing a mask.

We are expecting all pupils and staff to use their home testing kits twice a week as part of the National asymptomatic testing programme for school pupils. We would be really grateful if parents and guardians could support us in this process by reminding pupils to continue testingAll pupils have been issued with a set of tests, but if they are running out they should ask their Housemaster for a replacement. See below for details of how to perform the tests.

Charity Bake Sale

Tuesday 25 May

Next Tuesday we are hosting a Charity Bake Sale and we would really like people to get involved and bring in baked goods, alongside the bacon butties that will be on sale! This sale is in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Helen Porter and Angus Caton’s Memorial Bench. See below for more details.

Angus Caton Memorial Bench

After a heroic fight against brain and later spinal cancer, Angus died aged 14 1/4yrs on 28th June 2020. His family are raising funds to commission a metal bench to be made by a local blacksmith and placed outside Dale House in the Senior School. Angus loved Dale and Dean Close but his strength, resilience, and indomitable humour was also a huge inspiration to all who knew him. The bench will provide a special place where pupils can congregate, relax and remember the gift and joy of life.

Further information and the donation page can be found here:

In Memory of Helen Porter

Helen was a Dean Close teacher, Director of Music, tutor, parent and colleague who joined Dean Close in 1987. In the summer of 2019, Helen was diagnosed with cancer before passing away in September 2020. There is a beautiful piece about Helen in this year’s Decanian written by two long standing colleagues and friends. Helen’s husband, Michael, and her daughter Amy (who teaches at DCPS and DCS) are the inspirations behind the Helen Porter Bike Ride from Cheltenham to St Ives that will take place in two groups – one in May and another in July – to remember Helen and raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity. You can read more about their story and show your support HERE.
