General notices

Start of Half Term (all parents)

Friday 24th is Half Term for Dean Close Preparatory School and Dean Close Pre-Preparatory School. All parents are warmly invited to attend our service in Chapel at 2.45pm

Pupils may leave for Half Term straight after the service, which should finish at approximately be from 3.35pm.

In order to ease congestion at the front of School, any pupils may be picked from the Chapel. Pupils should be signed out by House staff who will be outside Chapel. Pupils being picked up from here will have been asked to take all of their belongings to Chapel and these will be stored until pick up. If you are using the option of picking up after Chapel please could you inform the Day/Boarding Houses.

All other pupils will be taken back to DCPS and can be signed out from Houses from 3.45pm. At Half Term we ask that all pupils be picked up by 5.00pm.

To help with parking we would also like to suggest the following options:

  1. If collecting from DCS straight after Chapel there is parking available on the tennis courts by the Bacon Theatre and by the astro turf pitches.
  2. Sports Hall
  3. Shelburne Road and Hatherley Court Road (please be considerate to residents by not blocking driveways).

Parking (all parents)

Thank you for your care in dropping off your child at the start of the school day.

We would like to remind you of the following:

  • Please use the drop off area outside the Centenary Hall where a member of staff will be happy to help your child out of the vehicle.
  • Please take care when getting in and out of cars with bags and equipment not to damage cars parked next to you.
  • Please refrain from parking your vehicle on the road outside the Fortfield boarding house as this causes vehicles to back up onto the Lansdown Road and also means that others find it difficult to park in the spaces opposite.
  • The speed limit in the school grounds is five miles per hour to ensure the safety of all of our community.
  • The safety of anyone on our site is of paramount importance. Therefore, the school asks that no one parks on the grass verge of the public highway outside the school drive or within 15 feet of a junction. Vehicles, so parked, can create other driver blind spots which could lead to an accident. This especially applies to the school exit onto Lansdown Road, the site of several previous collisions.
  • Please could all members of the school community be aware that there are marked disabled parking spaces at the front of the School. It is important that these are only used by registered disabled badge holders and it is most inconvenient if these spaces are blocked by other cars at anytime.
  • Please take care when exiting the school gates as pedestrians may be walking on the path.
  • We strongly recommend that cars do not turn right on to the Lansdown Road. This is a very busy road and there have been several previous collisions at this point. It also can cause long delays for other members of the public

Music Information (parents of pupils in Chamber Choir)

Chamber Choir will be performing a recital in Bristol Cathedral on Tuesday 21st May at 1.15p.m, to which parents are warmly invited to attend. We shall be leaving school at 10.30a.m and expect to arrive back by 4.30p.m approx. We will be taking school packed lunches which the girls have already chosen, so there will be no need to bring additional food, although an extra drink and a small quantity of sweets may be appreciated. There will be no need to bring mobile phones or electronic devices, but the girls may like to bring a small amount of money (maximum £5) to buy an ice cream/small souvenir if we find anywhere to do so down on the water front. Please make sure you send any medicines/inhalers in a labelled bag, which will be collected in before departure. A Dean Close coat may also be a good idea if we continue to experience this changeable weather! Any questions regarding this trip should be sent to or We hope to see some of you there, at what promises to be a really wonderful concert.
