OnThursday 19 March 2015 Dean CloseBoys’1st VIIHockeyteam travelled down to Millfield in the knowledge that they were already in the top 20 IAPS schools at 7 aside hockey. Having won the Midlands regionals they have been placed in a group with Cargilfield, Cheltenham College, Felsted and Hall Grove. It was a relatively hard group but three victories 3-1, 3-0 and 3-0 saw them into the quarter final with one game to go.

They played Cheltenham College and in 4 minutes were 3-0 ahead, the boys had won their group convincingly and were through to play Taverham Hall in the quarter-final. In a nervy match, that theydominated without scoring, they eventually found a way past their inspired goalkeeper in the last 2 minutes of the game. This placedthem in a semi-final against Millfield.

At half timethey were 2-0 down and seemingly out of the competition, a Gary Tredgett substitution and tactical change sawthem fight back to 2-2 in 3 minutes and eventually to win 3-2- nerve wracking but stupendous hockey! That scare seemed to galvanise the team and in the final against Foremarke Hall, also from the Midlands, the boys were amazing. Winning 4-0 and out playing the opposition completely. A superb achievement to retain the National title won last year!
