Recently the U13 girls’ hockey team travelled to Nottingham to compete in the Midlands region IAPS hockey tournament. The first match was a tough one against Foremarke Hall, (we lost 1-0) although it was an even game and the girls did have their chances. The team re-grouped and went on to beat Bromsgrove 5-0, St Olave’s 2-0, The Elms 3-0 and Spratton Hall 3-0, before finishing their group matches with a tired looking 1-1 draw with Wellingborough.

The team finished comfortably second in the group, with Foremarke Hall in first place. With a good supply of food and water inside them the girls re-set mentally for the semi-final against Greshams: win, and they were guaranteed a spot in the National Finals; lose, and they would have to battle it out in the 3rd/4th place play off as only three teams could go through. The girls were prepared and returned to their best form, winning easily 4-0. The job of the day was done, and the girls could relax a little and play the final knowing that a win would be fantastic, but with no pressure. They were amazing! Every single girl played her position to the best of her ability, resulting in two really good goals and a convincing win. It was a great turnaround from the first game of the day – on the same pitch and against the same opponents, four hours apart!

Everyone is really looking forward to the National Finals on 13th November. Well done, girls; your joy at the end of the day was thoroughly deserved!
