The U13 girls have made it through to the England In2Hockey finals, making it their second National hockey final qualification of the year.  Below is the match report of their recent win.

The day began what the team knew would be a tough match against Sherborne who had finished one spot above them at IAPS Nationals. The girls had plenty of possession and created chances but couldn’t score against their strong defence. Then a mistake from us gifted them a one-on-one against our keeper, which they took.  The team re-grouped and stormed the remaining pool games. They beat Lady Hawkins 4-0, Exeter 3-0, Taunton 3-0, Bristol Grammar 3-0 and Launceston College 7-0. Two draws for Sherborne meant the girls finished top of the group and met Millfield in the semi-final. We scored within a minute and added a second at the start of the second half, totally dominating the game. Meanwhile, Sherborne beat Kingswood on penalties in the other semi-final, so the final was a repeat of the first match of the day, almost 8 hours earlier! We scored a good goal in the first half and were in control of the match, creating lots of opportunities. However, we couldn’t find another goal and in a mentally tired second half we gave away one goal through weak tackles just outside the circle, and then conceded a second when we allowed a free hit to get straight to the top of the circle unchallenged. It was a disappointing way to finish, but the main objective of the day was to qualify for Nationals…mission accomplished!
