It seems the U13 girls are unstoppable as they have now qualified for their3rd National Final of the year, recently winning theEngland Hockey West Regional Finals held at Millfield.

On arrival the first pool game was against Blundell’s, who are always a good side and, as predicted, it was a tough game. The girls had not played together competitively since December and this was a hard opener! However, Hannah Porter scored two good goals and Louisa Neal savedthe teamwith crucial tackles time and time again. Blundell’s scored a fantastic reverse stick goal butthe girlsstillemerged 2-1 winners. They went on to dominate the remaining matches intheir group beating Knighton House 5-0 (Fifi Russell 3, Hannah Porter 1, Alice Howitt 1), The Downs Malvern 4-0 (Hannah 2, Alice 2), Clifton 5-0 (Hannah 3, Fifi 2), Taunton 5-0 (Hannah 3, Fifi 1, Alice 1) and Truro 4-0 (Hannah 2, Alice 1, Georgie Powell 1). This meantthe girlsfinished top oftheir group and were into a semi-final against Bristol Grammar School. It took time for the goals to come but eventually Hannah produced two sublime finishes forthe teamto win 2-0.

Meanwhile, Blundell’s beat the winners of the other group, Millfield, so the final was a repeat of the opening match of the day. Hannah scored within 20 seconds but everyone knewit wouldn’tbea walkover and, sure enough theywere faced withanother tough game. Hannah scored a second before Blundell’s managed to get through our defence to score one of their own.The girlshad several more chances whichthey couldn’t quite convert but thankfully enough had been done and the U13 girls were announced as theWest Regional Champions. It was a superb day of hockey from a very talented group of girls and now everyone islooking forward to National Finals in May.
