The U16 Girls’ hockey squad travelled to Oakham School in Leicestershire for the Quarter Final of the National Knockout Competition.

The Dean Close girls had a very strong start to the match and after a very skilful run and goal from Hannah Porter, Dean Close went ahead in the first few minutes. The match was played at a furious pace, there were chances at both ends with Issy Tingey in goal and Helena Montgomery playing outstanding defence, keeping the score line 1-0. A quick move from Sydney Davies put the team 2-0 ahead as she deflected the ball into the net. Dean Close then scored a third goal from another good deflection by Alice Howitt. With minutes remaining of the first half Oakham pulled a goal back to end a crazy half 3-1 to Dean Close.

In the second half, Dean Close controlled the match with Louisa Neal giving an outstanding performance in midfield and Grace Greaves, Leah Barton and Immy Mason playing strong in defence. After some good goal attempts made by Dean Close, the score remained at 3.1, seeing the girls through to the Semi Final at Lee Valley, an outstanding achievement by the whole squad.
