This season, in what is the 80th year of rugby at Dean Close, has seen the boys perform at the highest level, and in doing so have achieved unbeaten seasons for the 1st and 2nd XV. This is the first time in the history of the School that both senior teams have achieved such recognition. Congratulations to captains Archie Benson (1st XV) and Jacob Melville-Smith (2nd XV) on leading so positively throughout. This has been even more remarkable given the fact that the 1st XV boys are not only competing in a strong fixture card, but are also competing in the National NatWest Cup meaning that in total, they have won 14 games in a row this term.
Highlights of the season would include a strong win against RGS High Wycombe and Sir Thomas Rich’s in the Cup and solid results against Monmouth School, King Edward’s Bath and Taunton School who provided our sternest tests. The 1st XV look forward to welcoming Marlborough College on 9th January playing for a place in the quarter final of the NatWest Cup.
Over the festive period we look forward to rugby club members Archie Benson, Josh Gray, Freddie Thomas and Mattie Jones representing Gloucester Academy in the U18 Academy League and wish them all the very best of luck.
