During lockdown, musicians from the Fourth Form to the Upper Sixth have been learning an exciting arrangement of ‘Spain’ by the great US pianist and composer Chick Corea. Little did we know that the pupils’ virtual performance would become a memorial to Corea, who tragically passed away from a sudden illness, aged 79, just before Half Term.

In ‘Spain’, Chick Corea pays tribute to his Hispanic heritage with complex syncopated riffs, combined with  flamenco and jazz influenced harmonies. The pupils rehearsed weekly on Zoom with Mrs. Allen and Mr Franks, before recording their own parts from their homes on a variety of phones and tablets. The videos and recordings were then combined and edited by Mr. Rushton, who clearly had some fun with the visuals! Solos are heard from Seb (L6) on alto saxophone and Louis (U6).
